To love a monster

From the dawn of time all its ever known was its hideous shell
This disgusting skin that it had no choice in choosing
Oh how it loathed to see its own reflection
It could do nothing but hide from the sight of its peers
This broken creature that wonders the earth alone
Could do nothing but feel ashamed of its own skin
Until it met a soul who shone brighter than any diamond could
It did not flatter it sweet words but instead loved it for who it was
Not what it looked like
Years went by and their times together grew ever so happy
And slowly that fear and disgust for itself become nothing but a memory
Now drowned by the love of another
Even a monster can learn to love itself
