Maria's pov.

When I was at my job working Emily's kindergarten teacher came up to me and told me that she thinks Emily might need school counseling at first I didn't think nothing was wrong with Emily but the teacher told me that it might be good for Emily to talk to someone professional so I said OK I was expecting Steven to come to my office but Emily's teacher told me that he checked Emily out early and left I guess he was upset no one was trying to tell him how to raise his child we just want to help her out as I was at the printer printing out some worksheets for the kids I counsel I heard a woman talking to the front lady at the desk.

The lady left and she seemed aggravated I asked The lady at the front desk what happened and she told me that the lady was trying to check out a child when she wasn't on the checkout list as school let out I did a couple of paperwork then I went home when I parked my car into the driveway I saw James car and I knew he was home from work I expected his mom to be here but I didn't see her car anywhere when I went inside it was dark in the kitchen and living room I took my shoes off and left them by the door turned on the kitchen light and heated up some noodles I ended up watching a little bit of TV while eating after I was done eating I put my bowl in the sink and headed to the bedroom to take a shower.

I ended up passing James office he was asleep with his head on his desk I guess he took his work home and he was doing it and he fell asleep I didn't want to wake him up because I was told mad about what happened yesterday but I knew if he slept like this his neck would be hurting So I woke him up and told him to go to bed But he just got up and told me he was fine I put my hand on his shoulder but he nudged it off and told me to go to bed so I did I guess he was still upset about our argument that happened last night I ended up going to sleep until my alarm went off I got ready for my job and headed to the school.

As I signed in the lady at the front desk told me that I had a couple of messages from parents I told her OK and just to send them to my office as I got settled I started to write some emails to parents basically just telling them that if their kids need school counseling to contact me as I was finishing up paperwork someone knocked on my door I said come in I thought it was a student but I never expected to see Steven walk in I asked him if everything was OK and he said yes he sat down in front of me and told me that he was thinking about what Emily's teacher told him.

I think it's a good idea to put Emily in school counseling At first I didn't like the idea but I had a talk with a very important person in my life and she told me that it's a good idea! He said shaking his head.

Okay sounds like a plan your wife must really love you and your daughter to be putting her in school counseling! I said getting out a form.

What? He said confused.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to say that I was just saying your wife must really love you and your daughter that much to be putting her in school counseling! I said looking at him.

Sorry you just took me off guard i'm not married! He said looking down.

At first I was confused because I thought he was married considering he had a daughter I guess he can tell because he said it was a long story I told him he didn't have to explain and I told him he needed to fill out a form 10 minutes later he handed it back to me but he skipped a whole part asking about the other guardians information I told him that he skipped a part and he told me he knows I asked him if he did not know about Emily's mothers information and he shook his head.

Okay That's fine I can give her a call if you just give me her number so I can get the information from her! I said picking up the phone.

No You don't understand maria the reason why I don't know her information is because we are not together anymore she left me with Emily a few days after she got out of the hospital! He said sadly.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that so you're a single father? I said putting the phone down.

He said yes and asked me if that was a problem but I shook my head and said no I told him that he's doing a good job raising Emily by his self and I was sorry if I assumed he was married I was just confused when he said a special someone gave him some advice he told me he was talking about his mother and that his mother helped raise Emily with him we ended up talking until he told me he had to go to work I shook his hand and told him bye he said that Emily would be out of school for a few days because she's sick I told him that I hope she gets well and he left I sat in my chair thinking about what he told me so Amanda had a baby with him but she's not in his life or Emily's life anymore I started feeling bad because Emily so small.

I guess I was thinking too hard because I didn't hear no one knock on my door until I saw my sister come in she asked me what was wrong I just looked at her and then I told her what I found out.
