Your fingers worked away at the Rubik's cube as you hung upside down from the couch, waiting for L to finish his work on the case. You had just finished all of the assignments and none of your college professors had answered your request for more work. Now, here you were with only the company of a reclusive detective.

As soon as you had solved the cube, you huffed softly and righted yourself, walking over to your temporary room. You threw it on the bed in disgust and retrieved a copy of Frankenstein that L had requested Watari to get for you.

Through the ten months that you and L were in a relationship, you had only Watari to entertain you. However, the old man was currently away on business, so you relied on Mary Shelley to guide you of your boredom.

You returned back to the couch near L, flipping through the pages. Before you knew it, you had finished three-quarters of it before L was roused out of his trance, looking in your direction with his thumb set against his lips.

"What time is it?" he asked, causing you to startle from your own self-induced trance. He repeated his question as you checked your phone.

"Three in the morning. Jeez..." You swiped at your eyes as Ryuzaki tilted his head, eyebrows knitting together in concern.

"You're tired. You should probably go to sleep," he said before you turned his attention back to the photographs that he was analyzing.

"You should probably get some rest, too," you responded, snapping your book shut and setting it on the table that was stacked high with teetering piles of papers and hundreds of photographs.

"Nonsense. I can work more on cases if I decrease my sleeping hours."

"When was the last time you went to sleep?" you asked, setting your hands against your hips.

"Mmm..." The dark-haired man stared off in the distance, thumb pressed against his lips. "Friday?"

"Today is Friday!" you exclaimed, rolling your eyes as Ryuzaki hummed in acknowledgment. "I'm not going to sleep until you do! You better go into your room and get some shut-eye, or else I won't either. Understood, Ryuzaki?"

L's eyes shifted over to you, a spark of interest in them.

"How do you know that when you go to sleep, I won't sneak back to work?" he questioned, tilting his head in curiosity.

"I'm a light sleeper. I can hear just about anything, even if I'm asleep."

"However, you can only hear if someone is in the same room you're in. I've noticed that..."

"Dammit..." You took a moment before saying, "I guess we can sleep together. Sleep, nothing more implied!"

"That could work, but if I catch you in a lie and I can sneak away?"

"By God, you're going to go to sleep!" you exclaimed, grabbing the detective's hand and pulling him into the bedroom.

"You can change into your nightclothes. I won't look. Don't worry!" L turned into a corner before shielding his eyes.

You hurriedly dressed into your nightclothes, tapping his shoulder when you were finished. You crawled into bed as you felt his arms wrap around you hesitantly.

"I'm not overstepping my boundaries, am I?" came his soft voice as you softly smiled.

"No. Why do you keep asking?"

"I don't want to do anything too harsh or forward."

"You don't have to worry about that. I'm good... You can hold me tighter, you know?"

There was a long silence as he held you tighter and you kissed his arm that was snugly wrapped around you.

"Thank you..." you spoke into the night as you heard him hum in reply. "I love you..."

It only took a moment before he rolled you over to face him, looking into your eyes before pecking your nose lightly.

"The feeling is mutual..." he murmured, and you couldn't help but feel grateful for meeting him. He pressed his lips to the crook of your neck. "I want you to be as safe as possible. Do you want me to leave you in order to ensure your safety?"

"What? No, no! Absolutely not, Ryuzaki!" you answered, shaking your head frantically.

"That's good to know. It's been quite a while since I have been as interested in someone as I am in you. It truly intrigues me. I cannot deny that you seem to be 'my other half', as I've heard people say."

"The feeling is mutual..." you jokingly responded, drifting off to sleep.
