Can't Wait

Waiting

Nikki decided on a mid-length dark green dress with a cowl neck and long sleeves. Hanging it up on the side of the wardrobe she got out the shoes she would pair with it and the make-up she was going to wear. She smirked to herself that she had picked a dress instead of trousers based on the easy access. She shook her head, she hadn't felt like this since she was a lot younger, she felt almost drunk with lust. She considered her feelings for Jack, she loved him, she knew that already, but it all still felt so sudden. Her and Matt had been broken up less than a week, and already she was sharing a bed with Jack.

She cringed thinking that she spoke about wanting a family last night with Jack, whilst he said that he felt the same, she wasn't sure if he meant it. She wasn't sure if it even meant kids or anything, she just wanted to share her life with someone and their family, since she had none of her own. If kids came along then okay, but it wasn't the be all and end all for her. She was resolute in not wanting to come across too strong with him.

She smiled thinking of all the things he had shared and said to her. She still couldn't quite believe he had liked her for so long without her realising. She knew they flirted all the time, but he had actually said that he loved her. Nikki wasn't sure if she could quite believe that. She thought back to all the times they had saved each other, told each other all their most private thoughts and feelings. How had it never happened before now, she wondered.

Nikki undressed and put on her black silk dressing gown, wanting to relax for a bit before getting dressed up later. She grabbed her book from the bedside table and took it downstairs, wanting to kill some time and distract her from obsessing about Jack. She padded through to the kitchen and made a cup of tea. While waiting for the kettle to boil, she flicked through her WhatsApp messages. Her friend had read her message from this morning but not replied. Nikki thought it strange but considered that she might be busy.

Wandering through to the living room, Nikki sat down on the sofa, put her tea on the coffee table and opened her book.

"Da? Da? Where are you?" Jack shouted as he opened his front door.

"I'm in here son" replied Conor from the living room. He had the tv on, ready to watch the Thames City versus Sheffield United match that would be on shortly. He lowered the volume, "Get in here and tell me about what's going on with you and Nikki. Are you two an item now?" He asked gleefully.

Jack took his shoes off, put the food in the kitchen, dropped his bag by the stairs and joined his father. He was smiling broadly, unable to stop showing his delight at finally getting together with Nikki. "Er, yeah. She came to watch the fight, and because her and Matt had broken up I thought maybe that was my chance. I asked her out for dinner afterwards, and we ended up getting a take away at hers." he grinned, "Do you want lunch?"

"Aye, there's some ham in the fridge, a sandwich would be grand, thank you." Conor responded, following Jack into the kitchen and watching as he made lunch for the pair of them.

"You and Nikki eh, well, it's about time son. You're an eejit for stewing over it as long as you have done. That Matt fella could equally have asked her to marry him instead of breaking up with her, and then where would you be!" Jack rolled his eyes. "Well, at least you've finally done it. Just don't go messing it up. She's a good girl is Nikki. None of your foolishness this time, eh?" He warned.

"I'd never do that to Nikki da, she's not like anyone else, you know." Jack said resolutely. "I'm cooking for her later and taking her out. I'll make you something for you for dinner before I leave if that is ok?"

"Aye course it is. At some point I want to see her properly, now she's your girlfriend, bring her round for dinner one night lad" Conor asked, who had always had a soft spot for Nikki and the effect she had on his youngest boy. "Tell me about your fight then, that's a nasty cut is that. Nikki has patched you up, but can she knock some sense into you and get you to stop all that?"
