Chapter 1

"Okay... five, six, seven, eight!"

The squeaking sound of shoes resonated inside the practice room. Passionate individuals respire deep breaths. Sweats shone on each skin as they performed different skills in dancing.

It was a tiring yet exciting week for the members of the dance troupe. We will be competing in a contest held at a mall. I was nervous at first because this is the first time we will be competing against other talented groups, but I let that feeling slide. Never knew that excitement will fill my system up!

I joined the dance troupe during my first year in high school. My parents, especially Mommy, were totally against it—saying that it would only be a distraction from my studies. But I convinced them that I will do my best in school.

Surprisingly, they agreed. I was happy, of course. Finally, a hobby that will bring joy to my heart!

It has already been five years since we got here in the Philippines. I am now a senior high school student at South Monroe University, a well-known school in Laguna. My parents chose ABM as my strand even though I want Arts and Design.

I sighed. Wala naman akong magagawa na. I should keep in mind that I should always accept their every decision when it comes to my life.

I sat down when our dance leader told us to take a break. I grabbed my pink water bottle and drank from it. It was refreshing. I'm still heaving deep breaths because our choreography is no joke.

I felt someone tap my shoulder and turned around to see Maya and Ellen, my friends.

"Aria, malapit nang matapos ang practice. Uuwi ka ba agad pagkatapos?" Maya asked.

I nodded. "We will be having dinner with a family friend, e. Mommy's expecting me to come."

"Aww, yayakarin ka sana namin sa mall ngayon. Sayang 'di ka pala makakasama," Ellen pouted.

I smiled. "Next time. I promise!"

I noticed Maya looking at the exit door. She smiled widely. "Sino ang susundo sa 'yo?"

"Oo nga! Sino ang susundo sa 'yo?" si Ellen.

I was weirded out because of their smiles. "Si Tatay Ernie. Why?"

Both of their shoulders slumped. My brows furrowed. May nasabi ba akong mali? Tatay Ernesto or Ernie is our family driver. He let me call him Tatay kasi matagal na siyang nagtatrabaho sa amin at parang anak na ako kung ituring.

"Hindi ba 'yung gwapo mong friend ang susundo sa 'yo? I forgot his name."

"I think it's Kaihler, Maya. But everyone calls him Kai," Ellen informed.

Oh... They're talking about Kaihler. Turns out the boy that I met at the party was him. Their family is the closest to ours. Lagi ring iniimbitahan nina Mommy at Daddy ang pamilya nila Kaihler sa dinner.

It was awkward when we met again. I didn't know the Heavens would immediately answer my prayers. I blushed when I thought that I really want to see him again.

We became friends after. He's not difficult to get along with. Kaihler has that aura on him that lures people toward him like a magnet.

"Uh... no, e. I think he's busy with his studies," I said.

They frowned. Kaihler has been popular with the girls since our first year. There's this one time when we were in the third year, during our Foundation Day, a girl suddenly snatched the mic of the host and declared his love to Kaihler.

Well, he is handsome but he is not my type.

"Sayang. Pakilala mo naman kami kapag siya ang susundo sa 'yo."
