I love this ship! It's classic and a lot of people love it, so that's no surprise.
Peril being so obsessed with Clay and with good reason, he saved her from Scarlet and was pretty much the only dragon who forgave her from what she did in the evil queen's arena. He gave her a life she would've never had if they never met, which is what makes this ship so beautiful in my eyes! Sure, Peril can be a little too obsessive and jealous at times, but for most of her life the only dragons she spoke to was dragons she would eventually kill, an evil and manipulative queen, and an old skywing with no wings. Give her a break! And, Clay is helping to change her so that she can adjust properly to normal dragon life. Proof of Clay changing Peril into the better dragon everyone loved, that she really wanted to be, is when she saved Clay from that dragonbite viper. Also, Clay is really the only dragon who can control Peril's chaotic mind, him being patient and calm, and, in my opinon, a good listener and someone to look up to.
In conclusion, Clay saved Peril from the being the dragon she didn't want to be, which led her falling head over heels for him in the most chaotic way possible, but she's surrounded by dragons who will guide her in the right direction!
