Ready for some fascinating facts about parrotfish? I hope you are, because here we go! First off, Parrotfish belong to a family called Scaridae, and have around 80-90 identified types. They grow to 1-4 feet in length and live to around 5-20 years, the Bolbometopon Muricatum (green humphead parrotfish) living to its 20s, while most other types living to around 5-7 years. They have about 15 rows of 1,000 teeth fused together behind their bird-like beak. Another interesting fact is that parrotfish go though sex change, unlike most other species of fish. As they grow, they can change their gender, and when they happens their body releases hormones that alter the color of their scales to have the rainbow effect we know today! That's all the facts I have for today, but I might update more facts later on. Buh-Bye!!
