The mantle of the Red Guard can be passed down to anyone by the previous Red Guard. That's how it all started.
When the very first Red Guard, Caleb Wittebane, was killed by his brother...his wife, Evelyn Clawthorne took on the mantle. She passed it onto the first Grimwalker, Joseph Wittebane. And the mantle kept being passed from Grimwalker to Grimwalker...until it finally reached Hunter Wittebane.
But like all the rest, The Emperor managed to get his hands on him. Now, he is using his body as a way to rid the universe of witchkind with the enslavement of The Titan...and The Collector.
