Osteomancy (MHA x oc)

CH 1. New Student

A sparkle flickered in the darkness, shedding just enough light to give any who watched fleeting glimpses of deathly pale fingers holding the dying stump of a matchstick. As the light finally dies, the fingers grasping the stick loosen, and it falls. And as it descends, a voice, barely above a whisper, is heard.

"I only wonder whether anyone will notice."

Izuku glanced up at the television that chattered idly as he prepared his class's evening meal. Denki sat on the opposite side of the bar, attempting to wrestle his phone charger into its socket.

'BREAKING NEWS!!! Massive warehouse fire causes billions of yen in damage!'

Izuku paused the feed for a moment to reinspect the video. And, being the perceptive mind he is, soon noticed that there was one ghostly figure within the crowds portrayed that stared straight back at him, blinking to a strange rhythm.

Unknown to the verdant demi-hero, he began to drum his fingers on the counter, struggling to match the strange metronome.

Brought back from his absent-minded musings by a triumphant cry from the other teen, Izuku began muttering to himself.

After his classmates had eaten their fill and washed their dishes, he made his way back to his dorm room. Once inside, the teen hastily obtained one of his not-so-important notebooks, the ones used to record any non-hero-related rants he might have. Turning to the first blank page, he wrote down all he knew to be concrete about the fire.

The place, the time when the fire likely began, found through both videos posted by eyewitnesses and the report on the news, the time when the fire was quenched. He then proceeded to take note of all the nearby structures and the likely distribution of passersby that would have been present.

Having written down all these things, Izuku wrote down the pattern that the mystery gazer had given him. He took note of the time between blinks, the attire of the gazer, and where in relation to the burned warehouse they were.

Denki was somewhat worried about his boyfriend. Izuku had been preoccupied at dinner, which wasn't uncommon. What was strange was that he continued to be absent-minded for the next three days as well, something that only happened when All Might released his next costume design teaser. And even then, Izuku had been so ecstatic that he could not stop gushing about it to anyone that listened. Now all that was heard from the teen was a mumbled answer to any questions asked of him.

He made up in his mind to find out what had Izuku so distracted, and find some way to help him return to his normal socially awkward self.

The poor voltaic teen was interrupted, however, by a quiet knock on the front door of the building. Upon not receiving a response, the knock was repeated, this time accompanied by a muffled voice.

"H-hello? Aizawa-sensei told me to come here?"

At this point the voice went quieter still, frantically whispering to itself.

"This is the right place, right? Oh god, I must've taken a wrong turn, or maybe I misheard the cocoon? Oh no no no."

At this point, shuffling footsteps could be heard leaving the door. Those footsteps quickly came to a halt as a pink blur dashed past the electrified teen and opened the door, startling the poor soul outside.

"Hiiiii!!!! Woah!! Are you a new student? Where are you transferring from? What's your name?"

Mina was quickly pushed to the side as the poor boy in front of the two appeared to shortcircuit. Denki then interceded while keeping the pink girl from overwhelming the visitor once again.

"Dude, sorry about her. Come on in."

After the boy had gotten settled in the common room, Denki and Mina found that the extremely pale boy before them was named Inaba Nise, and was a transfer student from Shiketsu.

That evening, Shouta entered the room, with Inaba behind him.

"This is Inaba Nise, he will be your classmate for the foreseeable future... And quiet down, I'm going to take a nap. Nise, introduce yourself."

A/N

So, that's the first chapter. Sorry I got distracted from At Lantern's Call, but I wanted to do an MHA fanfic. UA and the other schools are colleges. Not for explicit purposes, but because that makes it easier for me to write (but also for... off camera explicit purposes, which happen solely because I want one specific interaction to happen). Please tell me what you think about it so far.

Also, surprise ship!! Not one I normally have, but I have a reason here. Izuku calls him Denks. Denki calls him Kazoo (iZUKU but backwards-ish).
Yes, I made Mina a little more like Nejire, leave me alone.
