"How could you miss a dead body?" Wednesday asked questions as she, Sheriff Galpin, Y/N, and Principal Weems walked through a set of open doors. For most students, it was just another school day. For Wednesday and Y/N, however, it was the complete opposite. For one, Sheriff Galpin visited Nevermore to interrogate the two witnesses of the attack. It was well known that he was wary of the school and the outcasts that came with it. Even a subtle mention of anything relevant to Nevermore would be enough to put him in a bad mood, so it came as a surprise to most when he stepped foot on the school grounds. Second, Y/N was sure that he had seen the last of Wednesday after that night. He assumed that after they had gone back to their respective dormitories, she would be packing up and catching the earliest train the day after. However, when Principal Weems asked for Y/N to come outside to aid Sheriff Galpin in his investigation, he saw a certain short, pale girl next to Weems. To say that he was glad to see her was an understatement. Outside, Y/N was smirking slightly, trying to prevent it from turning into a full-on smile. Inside, he was absolutely livid and filled with joy. She'd never failed to surprise Y/N during her ostensibly brief stay at Nevermore. It seemed as though he was finding out more and more peculiar things about the girl that made her so interesting during her stay. With the assumption that she's here to stay, it would certainly make the rest of the school year interesting.

"Cause it wasn't there." Galpin argued to Wednesday, giving her a look. Y/N looked dumbfounded. It was impossible for there not to be a carcass; he literally saw Rowan getting mauled right in front of his eyes. "What do you mean it wasn't there? Did it just disappear into thin air?" Y/N asked behind Galpin, desperate to get answers.

"No footprints, no blood, no sign of a struggle. Nothing, nada. My search party looked all night." The sheriff told them while growing quite impatient as they turned left towards the stairs. This only gave rise to more questions than answers. Wednesday looked quite puzzled, trying to figure out what could've happened to Rowan's body. Principal Weems stayed quite beside Y/N, she was confused, trying to understand the current predicament.

"Well, your search party must have left their seeing-eye dogs at home." Walking up the stairs, Wednesday shot at Galpin. She found it hard to believe that a search party accompanied by dogs had missed a rotting corpse. Believing that the group was incompetent, either that or someone or something tampered with the body.

"Yeah, Wednesday, and I saw that monster kill Rowan right in front of us." Y/N added from behind, refusing to think that they might just be crazy and be seeing things. The sound of multiple footsteps ascending the staircase could be heard.

"Did you get a good look at this monster thing?" Galpin asks a seemingly stupid question. "It didn't stick around for a chat." Y/N scoffs, answering sarcastically.

"Maybe it was one of your classmates." The sheriff speculated, inspecting the building he was currently in. "Sheriff, I find that question offensive." Weems comes to a halt and finally speaks up, finding Galpin's remark insulting as she turns to look the sheriff in the eye. It seemed as though she took pride in her students and refused to think of any of them committing such a crime.

"I don't care, 'cause I got three other dead bodies in the morgue. Hikers just ripped apart in the woods." Galpin revealed. If Galpin is saying what he's implying, then this means that there were other victims of the monster before Rowan. "The mayor said those were bear attacks." Weems dismissed his statement, she didn't think there was anything else more frightening out there other than some 500-pound beasts. "Well, the mayor and I disagree on that." This only confirmed Y/N's suspicions. "Wait, so you're saying this happened before?" Y/N asks, bewildered. Shivers ran down his spine at the thought of some monster running around in the nearby forest, murdering innocent people. He made a mental note not to go into the woods, especially at night. "So you automatically assume a Nevermore student is the murderer, even though there's no evidence a crime was even committed." Weems pondered. Knowing the sheriff's nature, it looked to her as if Galpin was trying to find any reason to blame Nevermore and its residents. "I'm sorry. I forgot, you only teach the good outcasts, right?" Galpin asks rhetorically, looking at Y/N and Wednesday. Weems could only sigh, carrying on upward, dropping the argument as the rest soon followed.
