I woke up to some shuffling. I couldn't open my eyes because my eyelids felt like they were taped down, but I heard every word that was being said.

"This was targeted," Damian said, his anger getting the best of him.

"Now that we know it came from the wine, we are looking into the vendor that might have brought the wine in. And trying to figure out how the wines were placed so that Rachel would be the one to drink it." Conner's voice was near. And his anger was just as clear.

"Now that both the girls are getting better and resting, we need to solve this. By the time they wake up, we should have this problem taken care of," Damian paces back and forth in the main room.

"I have my best men on it," Conner assures his friend.

"You should go back to your mate," Damian sighs. "She will need you."

"And you should go back to yours," Conner patted his friend's shoulder. "It wasn't your fault you know."

"I promised that nothing would happen to her, and she is lying in that bed, suffering because of me," Damian sounded defeated. "I should have noticed this morning. She was pale, but I just thought it was because of a hangover."

"It wasn't your fault. I didn't know about it either, and I am not blaming anyone. Except for the person who did it. So, man up and go sit beside your mate. You know what the doctor said about sitting beside them and how that helps them to heal faster."

"You're right," Damian sighs. "Go be with your mate."

"You don't have to tell me twice," Conner said, his mood lighter than before.

A few minutes later I felt Damian's presence at the door. I couldn't call out to him or open my eyes, but I remembered what Damian talked about with mind linking.

It wasn't your fault.

"Rachel?" Damian said out loud.

I can't open my eyes or talk, but I heard what you and Conner were talking about.

Baby, I am so sorry

Don't be. As Conner said, it wasn't your fault.

But I should have known.

How? Do you have some sort of superpower that I don't know about?

That's not funny. I am being serious here.

Damian shut up and come cuddle me already.

Damian moved over and I felt the bed shift as he cuddled close to me. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me flush to his body. I took a deep breath and slowly calmed my thoughts just enough to drift off into a peaceful slumber.

***************

I woke up the next morning to the sounds of birds chirping at the window. I sat up and stretched, feeling that all the muscles in my body were aching. I turned and saw Damian peacefully sleeping with his arm around my waist.

"Damian," I whispered.

"Yes, baby?" he asks, his voice ruff with sleep.

"Wake up," I kiss his forehead.

A smile grows on his face and his eyes open. "You must be feeling better," he sits up and leans against the headboard. "Is something that matters?" He asks as he rubs his eyes.

"No," I shake my head. "I just have to pee and you were holding me."

I stood up and walked to the bathroom. I finished up my business and brushed my teeth because I could still smell the vomit on my breath. Then I changed into nothing but my rob, wanting to get out of my sweat-filled clothes.

I came back into the main bedroom and climbed back into bed with Damian.

"You cold?" He asks as he eyes the rob.

"No," I shake my head and cuddle close to him. "I am just wearing nothing underneath this. I took off my sweaty clothes."

"Fuck," Damian groaned and closed his eyes. "Don't tell me things like that. You are supposed to be resting, not getting your brains fucked."

"Who says," I smirked, liking the idea.

"Your doctor for one," Damian gets out of bed, leaving me alone as he tries to create space between us. I know he is struggling with this, and his eyes are flashing with lust. "And you were just poisoned. Shouldn't you be tired or something?"

"But I am not," I shake my head. "I think I could use the good exercise."

"No," Damian shook his head. I didn't like that answer so I climbed out of bed and started to run my hands along his chest, teasing him. "Don't make me tie you up, beloved." Damian's voice was serious but his eyes said he was ready to fuck me.

"Please?" I begged, pouting.

"No," he shakes his head and moves back.

"But Damian," I give him my best puppy dog eyes.

"I said no," Damian says, becoming firmer in his stance.

Before I could say anything else, there was a knock at the door. Damian took that chance and went to the other room to get it. I followed but stayed at the doorway, not wanting to come out in only a robe.

"I am here to check on Rachel," the familiar voice of the doctor says as he greets Damian.

"She just woke up, give me a moment," Damian says, allowing the doctor to take a seat in our living room. Damian then comes over to where I am standing and whispers in my ear. "Doc wants to check up on you. Get dressed in something appropriate."

"He should be able to look at me even if all I am wearing is this robe," I say, not seeing what the big deal is.

Damian's eyes fill with jealousy before he harshly whispers, "Fine, but it's his funeral."

I sigh and head back to my closet, putting on some yoga pants and a sweatshirt. I go to sit on the bed and wait for Damian to let the doctor in. Shortly after, the doctor started to ask me all sorts of questions about how I was feeling and whatnot. I answer to the best of my abilities.

Of course, Damian is in the background, constantly watching what the doctor is doing. A few times Damian would growl when the doctor touched me, but the doctor seemed unphased and went on. I just scolded Damian until he went silent.

"Thank you," the doctor says to me as he closes his bag. "I am sorry that this happened, but it was lovely to meet the future Luna."

"It was nice to meet you too," I nod.

Damian walked the doctor out and I stood up and walked into the bathroom, having to go pee again. When I came back, Damian was sitting on the bed, waiting for me.

"I got the all-clear!" I smiled and hugged him.

"You did," Damian nodded. "But I am still not sure if I trust that doctor. Maybe we should get a second opinion."

"He said he knew you since you were a pup," I shake my head, knowing this is all just in Damian's mind. "I trust your packs doctor. I don't need to get checked out by someone else we don't know."

"Then at least rest for the rest of the day. That way tomorrow you can do whatever else you want, but you might have more energy," Damian started negotiations.

"I want to see Donna," I shake my head. "And I have enough energy as it is. So you can rest if you want, but I am going to find my friend and check on her."

"Fine," Damian huffed. "But you are not leaving my sight."
