end of the night✍️✍️

shortly after the two of you got back from your detour, you found yourselves feeling sad the night was ending. You returned to where the ceremony had been held, and found some people cleaning up. Before you got the chance to offer to help, Tuk came up to Neteyam, sleepy and rubbing her eyes.
"Neteyam, can you pls come tuck me into bed? kiri won't do it because she's busy, and mom and dad are still talking to their friends..."
she looked so adorable, and you couldn't help but smile sweetly at her and her brother.
"oh Tuk, of course, go on, I'll meet you up there, okay?"
"ok but who's that" she asks, gesturing to you.
you decide to answer her directly; "hi Tuk! I'm y/n, and your brother has been kind enough to give me hunting lessons!"
Tuk smiled at you, and said "y/n your hair is so pretty, i love the beads and flowers in it. can you do mine someday? pleaseeeee???" it was so cute to see her beg to get her hair done by you, so you instantly gave in. "of course Tuk, whenever you want!"

you two made it back to the sully family's tents, you waited at the door for Neteyam to finish tucking Tuk in for the night, and noticed Kiri walking toward her room with a sad expression on her face. She noticed you staring, and she forced a smile before retiring to her room.

You wanted to talk to her, to ask if she was okay, but you didn't know exactly how to start the conversation so you went to gather some snacks and mentally prepared some conversation starters. once you got back from gathering the food, you cleared your throat to make your presence known, and she opened the curtains of her room, allowing you in.
"oh, hey y/n, i was just going to bed... what's up?" she looks weary and tired, and you fear you may have misinterpreted her expression, when you noticed tears staining her face.
"Kiri, im sorry, i know we aren't close, but you looked so distraught earlier....is something up?"
there was concern in your voice, and Kiri could sense that you were being genuine, so she invited you to sit with her on her bed, excepting the food you brought her with a smile on her face.
"well... something is up. at the ceremony, I decided to wander off to admire some of the plants and animals, since i don't often get a chance to see them glowing at night... and some of the other kids made fun of me for doing it.."
her voice sounded so sad and defeated, and all you could do was place a hand on her shoulder.
"oh Kiri, I'm so sorry! what did they say to you?"
"it doesn't matter", she replied; "it's just getting to my head i think. I'll be fine in the morning."
you give her another look, your eyebrows furrowed together, as if to say 'i'm sorry the others treat you so unfairly' and you think that she gets it. you desperately want to cheer her up, and get a bright and amazing idea! "Hey Kiri, why don't you and me have a girls day tomorrow? hmm? it could be fun!! we'll do each other's hair, talk about boys, maybe even make some sweets, what do you say?"
she appreciated your enthusiasm, and considered your offer for a moment before saying yes! you were so excited to plan your day, that you rushed out of her room, but not before hugging her goodnight. you knew she didn't have many friends within the group, so you wanted to make sure the day would be extra special.

on the way out, you ran into Lo'ak, who playfully asked; "you looking for my brother? because he's always looking for you" he snickers at himself before walking away, not giving you the chance to reply. You smile and roll your eyes, looking around for Neteyam. You see him approaching you, and he gives a small smile, before saying; "was that my brother i heard just now? sorry, he's such a dumbass." You smiled and laughed, understanding that he didn't mean his words in a harsh way, he was really just joking.
"Neteyam, i had a great time tonight, but i should probably get back since it's so late..."
you were sad to have to leave him, but if you didn't, your parents might become suspicious.
"i understand y/n, let me walk you back to your place"

as the two of you made the short walk back, you had a short and sweet conversation about your plan for girls day, about the events of tonight, and about your hunting lessons (not going very well, you still kinda suck tbh)

the night came to an end with Neteyam giving a small peck on your cheek before he himself retired to his room, both of you excited for what comes next in your budding relationship 🌸🌷
