He's always known love to be inconsequential. It's a crackling yule log in the winter months, tangible for a season before withering to soot at the bottom of a hearth, forgettable. It cannot be taught or controlled, and it offers near nothing apart from heartache and liability. He's never yearned for or received love in the conventional sense. His brothers say it's like a blanket or a large wooly sweater, all consuming and warm, sometimes overwhelming but in the best way.  His mother loved him, shown by the stretch marks and scars across her body. He's been told that his father loves him, but he's not certain that's true.

In fact, Damian is uncertain about a lot of things in his life. He's not certain with his title as Robin or his position at Wayne Enterprises. He's not certain where he fits with his family or whether they merely tolerate him. He's not certain Gotham is capable of saving, or if it's even worth trying. He's not certain he'll ever see his mother again. He's not certain he can forgive her if he does.

Of one thing, however, Damian is certain. He's falling for Charlotte. But nothing is ever easy in Gotham, and with the backlash she's receiving, the newfound villains, scheming siblings, and impending gala, things are destined to come undone.

The only question is whether their young love will be able to stitch itself back together like a wooly sweater, or if it will burn to ash in a fireplace.
