Reasoning to this riddle:
ere's some things that good men lack
poisons to turn the pure heart black.
(Christianity says it taints the soul)
A list that's born of a serpent's gift:
(Original sin, -pride- Eve takes the apple from, Lucifer -snake-)
wise, alone, and set adrift.
(Wisdom at the price of exile from Eden)
A hollow life with nothing striven,
(Sloth)
always taking, never giving,
(Greed)
longing for another's place,
(Envy)
drunken thoughts of flesh and lace.
(Lust)
Hate that turns man on man,
(Wrath)
feasting before a pauper's stand,
(Gluttony)
and last is holding praise too near
(Pride)
for this the devil too holds dear.
(Original sin pride associated with Lucifer)
