Phe was ready to take on Nevermore, her father, however, was not. He was bouncing on the balls of his feet while she grabbed her duffle bags from the trunk of the car. "Dad, I'll be fine. This place is made for outcasts." She turned to him once setting it on the floor next to her. "I'm finally going to fit in somewhere. Be happy for me."
Her father, Charles, sighed. "If there's any trouble, you call me immediately, okay?"
Phe rolled her eyes. "There won't be, but in the one in a million chance there is, I will call you."
Charles held up his hands in defense. "That's all I ask. You know I worry ever since your mother ..."
He trailed off as Phe's eyes dropped to the floor with a frown. Her mother was a sore subject. "Yeah, I know." She forced her smile back on and looked back. "I gotta go. I love you." She gave him a quick hug before grabbing her two duffel bags and practically running away.
Charles waved at her back with a strained smile, "Love you too!"
Phe looked around at the gothic architecture of the school in amazement. "Wow." She had seen pictures online, but this was something else. She was so captivated by it that she didn't realize she was about to bump into someone until it was too late.
"Oh, sorry," Phe quickly apologized as she turned to face them.
It was a girl wearing sunglasses who had neck length black hair and pale skin. She slowly smiled before stopping and sniffing the air around Phe. She gasped. "Don't tell me your blood type is AB negative."
"Umm," Phe wasn't sure how to respond. Clearly she just ran into a vampire. "It is."
The girl threw her arm over Phe's shoulder and started to lead her through the school grounds. "Oh, we are going to best friends."
Phe raised an eyebrow. "Because of my blood type?"
"Hey, AB negative is the rarest blood type. No one at this school has it. You, my friend, are going to be very popular with the fangs."
"Because of my blood type?"
The vampire nodded. "Yes, girl, I just said that. Keep up."
Phe noticed as they passed people, that those wearing sunglasses looked at them as they sniffed the air. Great, she was hoping to fit in. Instead it's day one and she already stands out. "Who even are you?"
"Oh, where are my manners?" She stopped walking and pulled away from Phe, giving a little playful bow. "Rosalia Winters, at your service." She stood up straight. "But everyone calls me Rosa. And what's your name, AB?"
"Phe Lin." She glanced around. They were standing outside the dorm halls and groups of people were staring at them and whispering. "Is there a way to mask my blood type?"
"Why on earth would you wanna do that?! Ya smell great!" Rosa waved it off. "Besides, word's probably spread all around already. No point hiding it now. On a totally unrelated note, what's your sexuality?" Phe's eyes widened. "Boys? Girls? Both? Everything in between?"
Phe had never considered herself shy, but Rosa was a different level of straightforward that she wasn't used to. "Umm ... both ... I'm bisexual. Why?"
"Because any fang who likes girls is going to try to court you, and the girlies need to know if they even have a chance."
Phe looked Rosa up and down. Did that include her?
Rosa seemed to notice the not so subtle look and laughed. "Oh, you don't have to worry about me. I already have a girlfriend. I'll introduce you later. Though if you ever wanna let me sample your blood, I would not say no."
