The Pogues were on their way to the salvage yard. Kiara and JJ were leaning against Lennox's passenger seat, with JJ skillfully rolling one of his best blunts. Pope sat behind John B at the wheel, arms crossed, staring out the window.
"Pope, we're not stealing the drone. We're borrowing it." John B clarified to his friend.
"Humans are the only animal that can't tell fantasy from reality." Pope stated.
"Did you come up with that?"
"Albert Bernstein came up with it, but it applies to this whole treasure-hunting thing."
"Oh." John B muttered, feeling a bit dumber than usual as he sat there.
Pope spun on his back to look at John B and Lennox. "So, which is it? Fantasy or reality?"
"Why are you so weird, Pope?" JJ wondered, eyeing the white blunt in front of him.
"It's fantasy, but possible reality." Kie answered Pope's query.
"Reality." John B asserted confidently.
"Virtual Reality." JJ mumbled quietly, as he flicked open his silver lighter and prepared to light the blunt.
Just as JJ was about to light the blunt, Pope snatched it from his grasp and tossed it to the back of the van. Offended, JJ closed the lighter dramatically.
The group discussed the plan as the van slowed down and stopped on the side of the road.
Lennox noticed Kiara's family's green Toyota with their fishing boat attached to the back. She quickly jumped out of the passenger seat, followed by Kie who slid open the van door.
The two girls strolled to the front of the van. John B leaned on the edge of his open window, resting his chin on his arms as he gazed at Lennox.
"Hey, don't worry. You got this." He reassured her.
"I'm not worried. But even if I was worried, it wouldn't be for me. At least we're not the ones breaking into the salvage yard." She said with a smirk.
"You don't think I can handle myself?"
"No, I know you can. You don't have to prove that to me after all the shit we've been through."
"Be careful in there." John B said calmly.
Lennox nodded. "You be careful out there."
"Ugh!" JJ complained from inside the van. "Enough with the flirting!"
Lennox chuckled softly before heading towards Kie's vehicle.
Kiara started the car and glanced at Lennox as she opened the heavy door. Lennox quickly got in, waved to the boys, and they drove off with the boys following behind.
••••
Less than a hundred yards away was the salvage yard itself, situated at the end of a quiet street. Lennox and Kiara observed the compound in silence from a safe distance, seemingly alone, but in reality, they were far from it.
