chapter two,
biscuits, teas and unplanned visitors."WE REALLY SHOULD'VE WAITED FOR GEORGE," Sophie piped up, walking up the path of sixty-two Sheen Road. The group had only just arrived at the scene of their most recent case- one of the very scarce few they were provided with. Although their problem with their lack of cases was unbeknown to the newest member, Lucy Carlyle.
The young girl was made to believe she was entering a highly prestigious agency, when in truth Lucy was joining an agency with three other teenagers, with no supervision, and was made share an attic room with the only other girl- However, Sophie would take sharing a room with a random girl any day, rather than bunking with George. She adored the boy with all her heart but he was both the most organized yet sloppiest person Sophie had ever met.
"He was taking too long," Lockwood replied, coming into stride next to Sophie. "Besides," he glanced down at the girl, flashing his signature smile. "It's far more exciting this way."
Lucy glanced between the older duo, fixing the bag strap on her shoulder. "Thrilling," she mumbled, quickening her pace to keep up with her companion's speed. "Remind me of the plans again."
"Plan A is lavender water, Plan B is salt bombs, Plan C means whoever isn't in combat makes a defensive circle, Plan D means you and I fight the visitor while Sophie deals with the source, Plan E is swapping you and Soph," the boy explained gesturing between the two girls. "And finally plan F is Greek fire, but-"
"But it should only be used indoors under carefully controlled circumstances," Lucy cut him off in a bored tone and Sophie couldn't blame her, the girl had obviously learned all the basics in her previous training.
Sophie gave the boy a pointed look before remarking with a grin. "Might as well make her learn the whole alphabet while you're at it, Lockwood."
"It's so we can communicate with as few words as possible," he defended before checking the watch on his wrist. "We're ahead of schedule anyways, she'll have time to memorize them. Won't you Lucy?" The short-haired girl however was too busy looking through the window of the house to respond.
"Are you guys sure this is the right address?" Lucy questioned, ringing the doorbell twice. "It doesn't look like anyone's here?"
Sophie climbed the steps, stopping next to the girl. "Positive- look here comes someone now," she informed, watching as a shadowy figure slowly descended the stairs through the stained glass pane.
"Where?" Lucy stepped forward taking a closer look. "I don't see anyone?"
Sophie looked at the smaller girl with a perplexed look before her attention was brought to a soft voice behind them. "Are you from the agency?" Sophie turned her head quickly, being faced with an older, fragile-looking woman. She was dressed in dark clothes, a harsh contrast to her sickly pale skin.
