I held in my gasp of surprise, not believing how I hadn't realized when this happened. A small pool of blood formed around Jax, and it almost hurt me to see Mama in so much distress, with her fingers coated in his blood.

"What happened?" I asked in a neutral tone, showing none of the worry swirling in me.

Mama couldn't speak, only a tear dropping down her face.

"We were coming through the tunnel and then heard a gunshot. It was Jax, and by the time we got to him he lost a lot of blood. We were barely able to get him in here." Gabriella spoke.

I bit my lip. Jax needed to urgently be taken to the Doc, but I knew why Gabriella thought the best option was for them to take Jax to the saferoom.

I gave them a very useless attempt at an assuring smile, before pulling Jax up with both my hands, and draping his arm around my neck.

With him unconscious, he wasn't carrying any of his weight, making it almost impossible for me to take him to the Doc like this.

"Tell me he's going to be okay." Mama sobbed.

I couldn't look at her, not when I didn't know myself. "Mama, don't worry he will be just fine in a few hours."Gabriella said sweetly. Even in a situation like this, she was perfect.

Mom sobbed louder, and Gabriella patted her cheek slowly. "Oh per favore, what will I tell my sister." Mama said crying.

I had Jax fully up now, and slowly walked toward the door. "The Doc will take care of it." I said. I turned my head to the side to meet her eyes. "Now please go and rest, tongiht's been long enough. Both of you." I said pointedly. Mama gave no reaction, but Gabriella gave me a nod, before I pulled Jax away.

After getting a few men to help me carry Jax to the Doc. He was finally being treated. The Doc said it was going to take at least a week for Jax to be able to walk and increase physical activity again, due to the amount of blood lost, but other than that, he was going to be fine.

After another few grilling hours, I finally got the chance to go to my room.

I changed out of my literally— very bloody dress, and got into the shower. As much as I needed to sleep, I couldn't sleep with someone's blood on me. A couple minutes later, I slid into bed, and the exhaustion finally flooded over me completely. The moment I shut my eyes, I had no will power nor energy to open them again, and I could feel myself immediately drifting away.

I woke up expecting half the day gone by now, but instead was greeted with pitch black darkness. It was the next night, or so I thought until I checked my phone and realized I'd only gotten two hours of sleep.

My head was pounding making me think I needed more sleep. But when my stomach grumbled, I remembered the last time I actually ate was when I was snacking in Gabriella's room, as she was getting ready.

Forcing myself to, I got out of bed and walked out of my room with my phone's flashlight on. It was three in the morning, and there wasn't a single person in the halls, except for the silent guards. Their eyes stared at the floor like they always do, as I walked, but I saw each one of them tense.

I carefully passed Gabriella's room, making sure not to wake her up, and headed towards the kitchen. I opened the kitchen door, and closed the door behind me, hoping I don't disturb one of the cooks, especially after the night they had.

Suddenly I heard someone sharply inhale, making me turned around hastily. I pointed my phone's flashlight towards the figure.

Matteo stood there, his face emotionless like always. He was still in the same tux from a few hours ago, and the parts of his white shirt that the black coat didn't hide were soaked in red.
