"C'mon we're gonna be late"

"You know i don't believe in this shit Mark"

"Oh hush you deadbeat"

Mark Heathcliff, a young man who was known for being almost fearless when it came to sharp noises or literal speaks of the devil, had lived this long and he was sure it was thanks to an upper being somewhere in the universe.

On the other hand you had Cesar Torres, slightly older by a couple months, unlike his good friend he didn't believe in any godly beings or angels because he saw no point in believing something he couldn't see.

Despite the stark differences between the two friends it was clear they thought highly of each other

Mark allowed Cesar to borrow his car and in exchange, Cesar tagged along to church with Mark.

After a small bickering session the two headed off towards said church

"Can we go for sandwiches after this?" Cesar asked as they strolled along the sidewalk

"Depends what place you want to go to" Mark answered "Last time we went to that place down the street, i swear there was a pound of plastic in the cheese" he continued, scrunching up his nose when he mentioned the cheese

Cesar laughed at Mark's disgust before pointing across the street from where they were towards what looked to be a small shop.

"How 'bout there?"

"Sure"

It wasn't long until they reached the church, it had a familiar smell to it that Mark described as homely...Cesar described it as dusty.

Both of them sat at the pews for the sermon had already started

Cesar was barely paying attention to what was being said, it felt like nonsense to him.

Once the sermon was finished Mark had a sort of relieved smile as if his beliefs had just be justified

"Im fucking starved" Cesar joked as he stretched, his back audibly popping due to not really moving during the entire sermon

"Can you halt your starvation for another 5 minutes? I wanna go talk to Father Garcia" Mark explained

"Don't be too long" He joked

"You aren't gonna say Hi to him?" Mark asked

"Nah, he looks tired"

"Alright"

Cesar waited for Mark just outside the church, he watched the children in white clothing march out excited about what they were planning to do

A few minutes passed...and then another few passed, it was honestly starting to get boring.

It startled Cesar when he heard the clicking of shoes echo out the door, he looked back to see Mark and Father Garcia walk out mid-conversation before looking straight at him

"Hey Cesar, mind heading over to the sandwich place?" Mark asked "I gotta do something real quick"

"Alright"

Father Garcia gave them both a nod before the group walked away in opposite directions.
