COMELEC Chair Horatio Abad led the announcement of the 36 new senators this morning at the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros. Each region will have two senators, with the first placer having a six-year term and the the second placer a three-year term. This comes after the new constitution was ratified in a plebiscite held in August last year, which revamps the system of government into a constitutional monarchy and which will take effect on June 30. There is no clear majority as no single party garnered at least 18 seats. Eleven are from the Federal Party, eight are from the Nacionalista Party, five are from PDP-Laban, four from Lakas CMD, three from the Liberal Party, two from Akbayan, and one independent.

All eyes are on the 304-seat House of Representatives as the new Executive branch consisting of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet will come from among its members. Just like in the Senate, the Federal Party obtained the most seats at 55, followed by the Lakas CMD with 49 seats and the Nacionalista Party with 38 seats. They are followed by the Nationalist People's Coalition with 29 seats, Liberal Party with 28 seats, and PDP-Laban with 18 seats. Twelve other parties and two independents took the remaining 26 seats for the congressional districts. Party-list representatives took 61 seats.

Intense negotiations are under way to form a coalition government, with Federal Party President and Aklan 3rd District Representative Don Pelayo conducting a series of meetings at the party hedquarters in Bonifacio Global City with leaders from the other parties.

The new Parliament under the First Philippine Empire shall have its first session on July 28.

Under the new constitution, the Philippines will witness the ascencion of its first monarchs, Emperor Andres IX and Empress Bai I.

"The Filipino people expect their leaders to reside in Malacañang," ani Mina Ocampo. "There is no need to change tradition at this time."
