THE NEXT FEW DAYS was the same as usual. She had a feeling that her brother was lying. Always feeling his jealously radiating off of him. But to be safe, whenever her father was around, she would stay as far away from Lo'ak as possible. She hated being away from her best friend, but she still snuck out with him occasionally. Today was no different. Kiri, Lo'ak, A'leyra, Tuk and Spider were out exploring the forest, as usual. Both Lo'ak and A'leyra were devastated when they heard the news, kinda. They knew that within the next ten minutes they would've been out and about, just like normal.
"Tuk! Keep up!" Lo'ak groaned as he watched his little sister getting distracted. Again.
"Why'd you bring her anyway?" It was a good question. The forest could be dangerous for Tuk.
"She's such a crybaby! I'm telling, you're not supposed to go to the battlefield, I'll tell mom if you don't let me come!"
A'leyra laughed at her best friend mocking his little sister. It was so adorable
Tuk stuck her tongue out at Lo'ak, clearly enjoying making her older brother angry.
"Don't make fun of her." Kiri defended her favourite sibling.
They continued their exploration, until it was nearing eclipse, meaning that they needed to get home. Before Tsan'tey could catch them together and forbid them to see each other for life.
"Hey, check it out."
The group came to a halt as they slowly followed Lo'ak towards the ginormous footprint.
"Avatar?"
"Maybe, but they're for sure not ours." He came to the conclusion.
Signalling for them to follow him, Kiri quickly reminded them that they needed to head home before their parents could shout at them, again.
"Lo'ak! Come back! Jake is going to kill you!" A'leyra warned him, but he ignored her and continued tracking the footprints.
"Shut up, i'm tracking."
"Lo'ak!"
The group followed Lo'ak and Spider, which led them towards the old shack.
"Dad is going to ground you."
"Shut up!"
They watched as six avatars exited the shack. A'leyra heard Spider and Lo'ak conversing about their fathers, and how they fought there. Realising that they should probably tell Jake that there were some imposters trying to infiltrate their home. Snatching Lo'ak's hand to gain his attention, Lo'ak looked up at him in confusion, feeling his heart flutter at the sight of A'leyra holding his hand. She felt it too, but refused to admit.
"We need to go. Now." She instructed harshly. "Tell Jake what we saw, and then lets go."
Lo'ak hesitated before obediently listening to her, notifying Jake.
"I got eyes on some guys. Six avatars, over."
"Where are you?"
"We're at the old shack."
Lo'ak closed his eyes, waiting for the arguing to start.
"Who's we?"
"Me, Spider, Kiri, A'leyra...and Tuk" Lo'ak could practically hear the disappointment radiating off his father. He had let him down, yet again.
"Fall back, now. You hear me? Get out of there!"
"Yes, Sir."
-
"Dad is going to ground you."
"Shut up!"
"For life!"
"Kiri, stop."
A'leyra drowned out the sound of the sibling bickering, focusing her attention back onto Tuk.
"Come on! It's almost eclips-" Her sentence was cut off as she was roughly taken by one of the avatars.
"Tuk!" The group's eyes widened as they focused on the avatars surrounding them. Hissing and drawing their bows at the evil in front of them.
A mix of protests were thrown out at the avatars standing in front of the group as they were forced to lower their weapons.
Lo'ak grabbed A'leyra's hand tightly as he stood in front of her and shielded her from the bad guys. Then, an avatar which they identified as Quaritch, from reading his name tag, pulled Lo'ak out of A'leyra's hands and yanked on his braid. Letting out a pained hiss, Lo'ak fought to get the upper hand, but it didn't work.
Quaritch realised that he wasn't going to get anything out of Lo'ak after being flipped off by him. This angered him even more, as he pulled out a huge knife, threatening to impale Lo'ak.
A'leyra saw this and screamed at them to stop. She kicked her attacker than was holding her down, and swiftly punched him in the face. She reached out to grab Lo'ak away from Quaritch, but before she could she was pulled back again. Hissing at the pain, she accepted her fate.
She looked at Lo'ak, who gave her a thankful but sorry expression as she returned the gesture. Just as it turned night, they heard the faint call of Neytiri.
Eyes widening, they looked at each other and slowly nodded, knowing their saviour was here.
Just then, Kiri jumped in shock as her attacker was shot by her mother's arrow. After that, all hell broke loose. Lo'ak saw an avatar pointing their gun at A'leyra. Without thinking, He jumped onto her, pushing her towards the ground as the gun went off. A'leyra, acknowledging that Lo'ak had saved her life, was shocked as she grabbed Lo'ak's hand and ran into the depths of the forest.
Running into the rest of the family, she sighed in relief as she accepted a hug from Neteyam, who noticed that his younger brother's hand was still holding onto A'leyra's. Smirking to himself, Neteyam glanced at Lo'ak, whom immediately removed his hand from her grasp, face flushed with embarrassment, as was A'leyra's.
"Is everyone okay?" Jake asked, worried for his children and A'leyra's safety.
"Where's Spider?" Lo'ak looked back and forth, not finding Spider anywhere.
"They took him! They took him!" Kiri sobbed uncontrollably as the rest of the family comforted her.
"It's okay. Spider's a strong boy." Jake tried to reassure Kiri.
Lo'ak noticed A'leyra's discomfort, being the only one there without her parents comforting hug. He slowly made his way to her shaking body, trembling because of the cold rain. He took her into his embrace as he felt her relax under his touch. Comforting her silently while she leaned her head against his chest. The hug felt nice. It felt like home.
The family sighed contently as they watched the two locked in each others embrace, smiling to themselves. At least their family was safe now.
