D-Day Remembrance

Raindrops danced on my forehead like beads of sweat;
the ones that didn't have a strong grip                                                                                                                      would glide to the depths of gravity,                                                                                                                      creating pitter patter sounds when the ground ceased their seamless journey.

My father stands brazenly behind the camera. His big blue eyes are
shimmering in awe at the grave stones that are lined in their blinding
patterns; he is proud of these people even though he doesn't know them.

He looks at me from behind the camera and reminds me of why we are here:
"To bring the past to the future." He yells from a great distance.
It took me until now to realize the meaning behind his words: To always
remember our mistakes and to learn, to grow from them.
I treasure his words every day.

Even without knowing why or what his words meant, I still hold a blithely
grin on my face as I give a sideways glance to the camera.

The flag waved its subtle evening 'hellos' to the graves that lay under it.
Even the flag flaps a happy beat as it repeatedly hit itself in the heavy
winds. Everything seems happy today . . and all because these people
willingly sacrificed their lives for everyone except themselves.

A/N: I'm sure you all know the tragic events of D-Day. I hope this poem gets people to really think about it! <33
