looking the other way

Half of them think we're too young, other half says we're too dumb

("You're the generation that's going to change things for us,
anyhow, just only when you're older and doing what we say you should do")

Bound to die dramatists, Shakespeare did the say the world's a stage,
He lived in the age of the historical play
We've taken root in Greek tragedy and the onlookers laud us because they do not realize
Our chorus is not contrivance, the blood on the faces of these actors
Is real
Or perhaps they do know and they just don't care
We're outnumbered theatrics by the weight of the audience

(Actors have never been respected and our accomplishments are hoisted
along the chains of theirs as inconsequential)

If I have to listen to one more conversation about how we don't understand-
If I hear about the advent of the computer ("do you realize that everything you have came from us?")
and where do you think everything you got came from, the stars? divine ordination? it came from death and blood and broken limbs

Don't mistake placebos for cures.

We'll all raise fists, the first mistake you made was to feed us stories
You know the ones, the ones you refuse to understand
It doesn't take a genius to see what The Hunger Games was warning about
And The Handmaid's Tale was a cautionary tale you forgot to ingest
You thought that giving us superheroes like Captain America would do for us what it did for you:

You forgot that we have grown up in very different worlds
Ours was not the just and safe world that you had, blessed as it was with the blood of sacrificial lions
Ours was the panem circus, the arena where whatever we had was never enough

Stop looking away.

My generation's had enough of the promises and the petitions broken
Do you realize what happens when you create heroes and give them gods?
Are you scared?
