JUNEAUX understood that her luck would eventually run out. One could only add their name to the pot so many times before it was drawn: that's where the odds truly lie. However, the capitol's little slogan certainly rubbed salt into the wound as a single slip of paper practically announced her death.

Would anyone miss her? Unlikely. It was just herself and her father living in a one-story home within the confines of district nine. Although she was the primary caretaker of the home, her father's illness had grown to the point where he was clinging to life with each raspy breath. Once her father ultimately passed, following the path of her mother and younger brother, she would be utterly alone. So what was the point in fighting fate?

Hardly anyone expected the seventy-second hunger games to last nearly nine weeks, but during that time she may just find she has more fight within herself than originally anticipated.
