Carl fucking Grimes. If you're not dead, I'm gonna strangle you myself. How am I supposed to tell Lori? How am I supposed to say he's out there with a bunch of men who's gonna shoot first then look later?
Sighing I tucked Kali in and went downstairs. Glenn and Daryl was back.
"Lori." I called when she started to walk out the house.
"What is it sweetie?"
"Carl is gone. He left when I went to get some juice. He sneaked out the window."
"Are you sure?"
"The window was open."
"But did you see him leave? Did you see him run from the house?"
"Well no but-." She ran up the stairs, ignoring me.
"Lori."
"Go with Glenn and them. I'm just gonna double check everything." She said and I hear different spots being knocked on and then opened.
I joined the others outside and they were all on one side of the house, looking in the distance. "What's wrong?"
When I got closer, my heart stopped for a second. It was at least one hundred walkers coming towards the house.
"Should we just go inside?"
"Not unless there's a tunnel downstairs I don't know about. A herd that size will rip the house down."
He wasn't wrong. Those mindless corpses only had their mind on one thing: us. They would do anything to get their hands to get on one of us. Even if it's a piece. Just a hand. Just a small bite.
"Carl's gone." Lori said, making everyone forget the hundreds of walkers coming towards us.
Well at least made Carol panic. "What?"
"He was upstairs. I can't find him anymore. Emari said the window was open and I just went to double check. He's nowhere."
"He could still be hiding."
"He's supposed to stay up there with the girls. I'm not leaving without him."
"We're not. We're gonna look again. We're gonna find him." Carol said before leading her back inside.
"Emari, you can shoot right? We gonna need you." Hershel said holding out the same gun I used the night the camp got overrun. That seemed like a lifetime ago.
Grabbing it, I starting to put boxes of all the ammo I can fit into my pockets. Hopefully it will be enough.
"Maggie." Glenn started and she was doing the same as me.
"You grow up country, you pick up a think or two."
"I got the number, it's no use." Daryl argued watching the rest of us prepare ourselves for this long and terrible night.
"You can go if you want." Hershel stated cocking his shotgun. You know for a farmer, Hershel is really cool and tough.
"You gonna take 'em all on?"
"We have guns. We have cars. Kill as many as we can, then we use the cars to lead the rest of them off the farm." Andrea stated still loading up her guns.
"Are you serious?"
"This is my farm. I'll die here." See another cool statement by Hershel.
"All right. It's a good a night as any." Daryl said hopping off the porch.
"What's the game plan? How are we gonna do this? Like exactly."
"T-Dog, you Andrea and Emari are gonna take Shane's car. Glenn and Maggie you take the pickup. Jimmy you got the RV. I'll take my motorcycle. We're gonna go in a loose circle shooting at the walkers. After we get the first couple lines down, Jimmy I want you to park by the barn and shoot. Make sure the door is locked. I'll be able to go through the walkers killing them."
"And what about me?"
"You stay here and get the stragglers. If it gets to be too much, lead them out. Got it?" We all nodded.
"Don't be a hero. Please Emari. Let T-Dog and Andrea do it." Glenn whispered while I was going to go to the car.
"I'll be safe."
"The three of us are gonna come back. We always do." He promised, putting another gun in m gun.
"That's what Rhees do." I stated, grabbing the last two boxes of ammo before I went into the car. I got in the back and Andrea got in the front with T-Dog.
"You okay?" T-Dog asked as I rolled the two windows down. "I'm good. You know killing these things are second nature at this point. Second nature." I replied as we drive down.
"You still have your knives right? There's gonna be a point we don't have no bullets."
"Always." I said before sticking my head out the window and starting to shoot the walkers.
If the view up there was scary, the sight up close was encouraging to have a heart attack out of fear. Just flesh in all different stages of decaying. Different body parts missing. Different wounds. Different parts of skin peeling off. All had the same eyes. All has mouth and teeth that was stained with dried blood.
The smell was worse. It was like opening up all the graves in a graveyard. It was a smell that even if I showered ten times, I can never get rid of it. It was disgusting. It was nauseating.
The sounds of moans and groans we're gonna be part of the nightmares next. The moans turned into growling once they realized how close we were. Then silence was only met when a bullet was put into a skull.
The sounds of the guns were the only other thing you can hear when you was out the window.
Moans, growling, and the sound of the gun going off.
I was going back and forth between the two windows. Andrea was switching from sitting on her seat to the ledge of the window. How she didn't lose her balance I would never know.
My hand was starting to ache from the little recoil from the gun. It was a big gun. I only used it once and it seemed like I wouldn't need to use it again when we got to the farm. I hate being wrong.
When my first gun emptied and I didn't have any more bullets got it, I grabbed my second one. It was a moment where we was all in the car.
"They're all over the place. There's no controlling them. We're gonna run out of ammo before we even make a dent."
"We need a new game plan." T-Dog was mowing down as much walkers as he can.
"Should we go back? Get some of the others? We can go back to the highway. The spot where we lost Sophia."
"I don't know about the highway but we can go get the others."
"Now down as much as you can till we can get to them."
"Hold on." He said as the car started to go through all of the walkers. Blood was spreading everywhere.
Some even got inside the car. I rolled up the windows a little bit more after it was getting that bad. "How good are you with ammo?"
"Good enough for us to get out of here. You?"
"More then enough."
"Good."
We pulled up to the house and Lori and Beth was heading towards the car. Lori was basically pulling Beth along to be more exact.
Kali wasn't with them though. But Patricia and Carol wasn't with them either.
Andrea and I got out quickly to help them with the stuff they had. "Get in."
"Get the others, they ran that way." Lori said pointing and Andrea ram where she was pointing at. I was gonna follow but someone pulled me back in and closed the door.
"You need to stay here. She'll be alright. She'll bring them back." Beth reassured me as she looked out the window.
Carol and Kali was backed into a wall. Carol had Kali in the little sling I put her in. She was using her blanket.
Carol was holding a plywood and was holding it out before Andrea got there and shot the walkers down.
She's safe. Kali is okay.
Then a walker fell on top of Andrea.
Everyone stared in shock while I started to get out before Beth once again pulled me back in. "No let me go. Let me go! Get off of me!"
"They got her!"
"Lock the doors. I can't hold onto her for long." She was right as soon as I got out her grip I started trying to figure out the locks to the door.
I don't care how many walkers were out the window. I got guns and I got my knives. I'm getting to her anyway I can. I'll kill as many walkers as I need to. I don't care if I get bit. As long as she's safe.
"We gotta go! T-Dog, come on!" Lori shouted and he hesitated before pulling out of there.
I started punching the glass hard still shouting. "Go back. We can't leave her! She's my little cousin! She's a baby! She can't be out there. Let me out! Let me out!"
I started to kick the glass and Beth had to pull me away. "Let me go get her! Let me go! Get your fucking hands off of me!"
She did and I hopped the seats to the back. I started to push the trunk, hitting the glass, kick out the taillight but I couldn't get out. I had to watch as walkers crowd the place where she was just was, tearing up the chickens she fed, stomping on the flowers she was going to give to me. Watch as the walkers fight to get a bite of her. My chiquita.
I couldn't save her. She was gone. I kept k hitting the glass until I couldn't control my sobs. Until it hurt to keep screaming her name. Until I just watched as we got farther and farther away from her.
I hope she was still asleep. That way it didn't hurt. I hope she's with our uncle like I said. The both of them looking over me right now.
At least I didn't have to put her down. At least I didn't have to see her get teared up to pieces.
I have to remember her giggle. It was just this afternoon we was playing hide and seek. It was yesterday when we was picking flowers. It was just last week where we was dancing to a CD Glenn found. She was standing on my toes then Glenn picked her up, then she was passed onto others.
My chiquita couldn't be gone. Right?
