The SlugClub parties are always the same- fancy food, the favourite students and Slughorn trying to be cool.Slughorn had been talking to Regulus and a few other students, asking about their plans for the holidays. Regulus was nodding and smiling politely as some student spoke. In reality, he was terribly bored because apart from Lyra, only Romeo was there from their friend circle. But, he of course, was off with someone, somewhere, doing something.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lyra leave the room, shortly followed by Avery. Suspicious and untrusting of Avery, Regulus excused himself from the group and left the party behind Avery. He turned the corner to find him on the floor, Lyra's leg on his neck. "Oh, hello Regulus!" She smiled up at Regulus, casually stepping away from the barely conscious Avery, who got up and scampered away.
"Are you okay?"
"Of course." Lyra replied grinning, but Regulus noticed a long scratch on her neck. He stepped closer without realising it, looking at the scar carefully trying to see how deep it was."Did he touch you?" Regulus said in a low voice, still standing close as he was.
"He tried, certainly. Didn't get very far." She tried to sound funny, but her voice was low as his, like a whisper.
"I can kill him if you want."
"You're not going to kill him on my watch."
"Well don't look, then."
Their faces were very close then, almost touching noses. His hands were still on her neck and she didn't move an inch. The hand that was on her neck, slid up a little more, holding her face gently. No sound other than their breathing could be heard.
She tilted her head upwards slightly, and his thumb parted her lips lightly. He moved a little closer somehow, looking at her curiously, unsure.
And suddenly, they heard loud giggles coming their way. With a slightly late reaction, Regulus took a step backward away from her. "I'm sorry." Regulus said, still looking at her.
"Reeggguulus!" Rabastan called out, Finnick giggling on his side.
"What are you doing here?" Lyra asked, confused and dazed.
"We got bored and thought we'd check up on you." Finnick kissed Lyra on the cheek, and Rabastan threw himself into Regulus' arms.
"Oh my god. Finnick?" Romeo said, stopping in his tracks as he walked with a girl in the dark corridor. He spoke to her quietly and she left them all in the corridor. Finnick stumbled towards Romeo, smiling drunkenly. Romeo stopped him from falling, holding his arms to stabilise him, and then holding his face to keep him straight. "What have you done?" He said gently, though the words might've seemed aggressive. "Come, we'll go back home okay?"
So they did all go back to the Slytherin common room, which was almost empty since most had left early to go to their dorms or home. With a little bit of struggle, Romeo successfully put Finn to sleep. Regulus just left Rabastan with Cordelia for her to deal with.
As Rome changed in the bathroom, Lyra and Regulus sat in the room on opposite sides, a sleeping Finnick on the bed between them. Regulus sat on the table and wrote something intently.
"Regulus?"
"Yes, Lyra." He replied, not looking up.
"I'm going up now, are you coming?"
"No. I'm going to the Manor."
"The Black Manor? This late?"
"Yes."
"Alright, I'll see you after the holidays, then?" He didn't reply with words, rather just nodded.
She waited for a few seconds, and then left without saying another word. If he wanted to talk to her, he could. Okay, she thought, alright.
