The five foot one petite blonde was listening to the radio through her phone as she arrived at the place she volunteered/technically worked as a receptionist. She had the body of a gorgeous babe in Los Angeles, if the gorgeous body was a little curvy in some of the wrong places. She had her chunk from childhood when she suffered from being overweight and still considered herself overweight but since she was saved by her friends, the firefighters of 118, she's gotten to her dream weight.
"Morning." She tells the captain as she walks in. The Captain was a fifty year old who did not look his age at all. He was muscular and good looking, how a typical fire captain looked with brown hair with a little silver at the ends and brown eyes that often had a disapproving look when it came to the young gun as she called him. The Captain wasn't just the Captain, he was the Dad of the group.
"Good morning Melanie, how are you today?" Captain asks.
"Pretty good, Bobby. I slept well, the traffic wasn't that bad..." Melanie replies.
"That's good. We've got a new firefighter later during shift, I'll bring him by to have him meet you sometime later." Bobby replies.
"You know where to find me." Melanie explains. She looks up as the team gets called out on an emergency. She headed to her desk and sat ready to welcome any and all visitors.
[Later That Afternoon]
Bobby walks through in a good mood as he had kissed his secret girlfriend on the last call. Melanie was upstairs on the mezzanine balcony where the kitchen was. She was helping Bobby get his ingredients ready. Bobby loved to cook for his station instead of delegating that job to everyone else but he did let Melanie help. Two years ago, a year after Bobby became captain they saved her from an apartment fire where she'd burned her dinner and got pretty significant but not life-threatening burns. Bobby, in a dad tone, offered to teach her to cook. When she was better, she came down to the station and Bobby began his cooking class. She'd been around ever since as she became a family member of the 118. The team took care of her like she was part of their family and a year ago, when Buck joined the team, Bobby made it official that she was the station's receptionist and greeter. She looked after the station when they were on shift and the 'B-Team' had their own receptionist when Melanie needed a nap from working the same shift as the team. She didn't mind it. Station 118 was her home and the members of the team, her family.
There at Station 118, everyone had a nickname. Bobby was Captain and Melanie went by many names that included Mel, Little Sis, Fire Bunny - which was a reference to the fact that she met the team on Halloween when she was dressed as a sexy bunny and ended up catching the outfit on fire because it was flammable.
"Looking good, Sam. You make that shine, Tanika. Outstanding haircut, Martin!" Bobby compliments the team.
"You are cheery." A muscled and gorgeous bald colored woman states wearing a yellow t-shirt, blue jeans and fashionable boots.
"Why shouldn't I be?" Bobby asks.
"I don't know." She replies, "Maybe because you've been like this for weeks and it's starting to get on my nerves."
"Hey Hen." Melanie states as she was coming out of the lady's room. The woman was Henriette Wilson but she went by Hen and only Hen.
"Hey Melanie." Hen replies, "So, tell me, what's going on with you?" Hen looks at Bobby before the young gun walks over interrupting.
"I got another DXA scan, and guess who dropped another half percent?" The twenty-seven year old muscled brunet states walking over holding up his phone.
"What?" Hen asks.
"A DXA scan measures your body fat. You can see your percentage in every part of your body." He replies.
