You (pronoun) — The one who was perfect for me. But was taken away as soon as I fell in love with you.

"Y/n, do you think that one day, the stars in the sky will disappear?"

"They will disappear, and so will humanity and the existence of a once great universe."

Eli Clark x reader

The prequel.

(Disclaimer: I will assume that you have read Paracosm. Another one of my fics. This is just merely the prequel. Though I highly suggest to read Paracosm before this so that you can get some ideas on where the theme is coming from. Thank you!)

Reader is presumed to be female.

Before the accident, there was nothing but just two friends sitting alone up on an old willow tree. They wondered endlessly about the world, she wanted to be free, but he was rather empty. He wanted to be with her.

"Y/n, our match is starting soon. Shall we go now?"

Her eyes widened as she realized how much time had passed. The world never stood still for them, that sucked.

"Well, okay. Let's go then. Being late is worse."

Those two were having a nice time together just walking, hand in hand, towards the waiting room. Eli seemed to be forgetting something, and you seemed to notice it quickly.

"Is something on your mind, Eli?"

He looked at you and smiled slowly

"I'm fine. Though I feel like I've forgotten something about today..."

You think for him for a while and immediately remembered the plans for today. So you were forced to keep your mouth shut until you both arrived there.

"Oh well, you can think about it once we get to the waiting room, right?"

He looked at every direction, thinking that something would pop up in his mind, but nothing happened. He sighed, thinking that you were right.

As soon as the two reached the door to the waiting room, they were met with 4 loud screams instead of the almost uncomfortable silence and the intense coughing of every hunter. They were both shocked to see everybody holding balloons and say :

"Happy birthday, Eli!"

You didn't see how his eyes widened under the blindfold, but rather the way he jumped at the sudden noise. And Brooke was there with a little party hat. (Oh goddammit that's so cute-)

"Now do you remember, Eli?"

You asked him, but he just stood there, too stunned to even speak. It looked like he even stopped breathing.

"Yeah... I do."

He muttered loud enough for you to hear. You smiled when he did, and oh how it looked to beautiful on him.

They all postponed the match and decided that everybody would go to the backyard because it was too cramped in the waiting room.

ꔛ———ꔛ

Everybody was enjoying their time and practically partied until midnight, though Eli already left with you.

Like the usual other nights, you guys talked about the future and how it would've been like if you both didn't go to the Manor.

"But then that would mean that we would've never even met!"

The realization struck when he told you that part, you were a bit slow with processing it.

"Damn, you're right."

Eli was looking at you, and you smiled. And he spoke :

"Tell me, what if the stars disappeared one day? I want your perspective."

You thought about it and laid down beside him, while looking at the same stars that yes, will disappear someday."

"Then all that remains is a forgotten tale of a once, great universe that only time will remember."

He pondered on your response for a bit and nodded.

"I asked Gertrude the same thing. But she had a different answer."

You look at him, curious.

"She said that we are like the stars. We all disappear one day but there is always someone that will remember that once a million years ago, the stars existed in the night sky."

You absorbed the words that he told you, and you thought that it was more interesting, but yours was more logical.

"Gertrude certainly is interesting with just the way she answered your question."

"She certainly was interesting, I'll tell you that y/n."

There was a moment of silence before you looked at his face and said...

"Hey Eli... Happy Birthday. I know that it may be different than the way Gertrude did it, but I hope that it was just as memorable as hers."
