» chapter six: one job «

According to Sarah, John B had taken their oxygen tanks to refill them. She said she wouldn't tell anyone but Winona didn't really count - Sarah told her everything. Thankfully, Sarah didn't really have any suspicions about it, so as long as John B returned them they would be in the clear.

"So, I'm thinking red because. . . well, it's pretty obvious," Raquel grinned as she began to sift through the dresses on the rack in front of her.

Winnie and her friends had taken the boat to Chapel Hill after all. Midsummers wasn't too far off and they did need outfits, which the Sheriff had reminded her daughter of. Susan Peterkin didn't plan on going but she made sure that her daughter was so that she wouldn't be even more of an outcast.

She was aware of where she and her daughter stood in the social hierarchy of the Outer Banks. She wasn't a Pogue but she wasn't a Kook either; not really. They lived close enough to Figure Eight and Susan had a job that gave her power, but the Kooks looked down on them just as much as the Pogues avoided them.

The Peterkins were the middle ground of the OBX.

Quinn put a hand on Winnie's shoulder, getting her attention. "What do you think, Winnie?"
