Birthday Surprise

It's my birthday.

Mother baked me a cake and invited all our friends over,
and with the boy next door, she hoped I could get closer.

But as he spoke, I watched my door.
'I know Johnny will be here, I'm sure ‘.
He promised he'd be here,
but the time he hadn't made it very clear.

After two hours of sitting and waiting,
He finally made an entrance.
But the surprise that was awaiting,
had attracted an audience.

Johnny stood in the centre of the gathering,
but it wasn't his new haircut that grabbed everyone's attention,
It was the girl in his arms that caused all the tension.

Everyone in this room knows of my feelings,
This situation will really change how I see things.
