Jamie Chen always knew she wanted to help people. From playing nurse with her toys when she was young to saving her choking friend at lunch, Jamie thought she'd end up being a doctor but when her brother was killed, Jamie realised there were other ways she could help those around her.

Straight out of school, Jamie attended the police academy. She was the top of her class and Sergeant Athena Grant saw that, she saw the strength in Jamie's kindness, the strength in her compassion and patience so once Jamie's rookie years were over
Athena picked her from the bunch, naming her as her partner.

Jamie knew her job as a police officer would never be easy. There would be challenges and days that left her questioning if she was doing the right thing but somehow getting tangled up with a firefighter from the 118 was more life altering...

Authors note:
- For anyone confused, this fic used to be called 'Burnt Bridges', with the rewrite I decided to change the name to give it a fresh start and Mourning Dove fits it very well.
- Okay, so I know 727-L-30 is Athena's call sign for dispatch but because in this fic she has a partner and 'L' signals that there is only one officer, until Jamie rides alone later on in the fic, their call sign will be 7-Adam-19 (which is Lucy and Tim's call sign in the Rookie) which indicates that the unit has two police officers...
- Anyways, Jamie is such a sweetheart and Buck just has heart eyes every time he sees her. I love them.
- Also, be prepared for a lot of scenes with Buck lifting Jamie up with one arm. It seems like such a Buck thing to do and with their height difference- I'm obsessed.
