Please ignore this if you don't want some English jargon and just story thanks

The prominent stimulus of imagination and reality that presented itself throughout Richard Yaxley's 'bright lights' has significantly affected my writing in my story 'Forgotten'. The description of 'she is, as always, lying down in her bedroom. She's not very well' within Yaxley's piece, can mislead the audience into thinking that the main character's aunt is unwell, but it is indirectly proven throughout the short story that she is in fact, dead, which provides a dark mood in the story. An instance of the imagination and reality used within my creative piece is the line 'the loving soft hands that I thought held me when i was alone' this technique is used to show the desperate yearning for familial love Rosemary Kennedy was deprived of, showing that she would imagine 'loving soft hands' that would hold her which never existed in the first place, which i used to enhance the audience's sympathy towards the protagonist.

The implementation of metaphorical language that was used to enhance the tone present within edgar allan poe's 'tell tale heart' has also moulded my creative writing piece to provide a dark atmosphere, an instance of this is 'as the beating of a drum stimulates the soldier into courage' which was used to magnify the vengeful tone of the main character within tell-tale heart. A sample of this within my own work is 'My family was a world where only money matters, and my identity held no value in their eyes' . This powerful language is used to illustrate to the audience that the protagonist had no worth within her own family, due to the lack of 'value' she held, exemplifying the constant comparison Rosemary Kennedy endured because of her successful family.

The application of dark, visual imagery that appears in george Orwell's '1984' writing piece has shaped certain aspects my creative writing, the usage of visual imagery in 'winston, who was thirty nine and had a varicose ulcer above his right ankle ' gives the reader insight on specific details on the protagonist by using visual imagery, while also informing that the story's narrator is omniscient. A minor iteration of visual imagery present within my work is the line 'my shaved head adorning a stitched scar and an emotionless face, i was trapped inside a body that was rendered useless' which provides the audience a chance to once again sympathise with the protagonist, giving a wider view point to the reader.
