It was dark. He blinked thinking maybe he just had his eyes closed but no matter what he did there was just… darkness.

"You're fine. Breathe."

There was a loud thud. He froze, instinctively reaching for his weapon only to find it was gone. Another loud thud, this time it came from behind him. He whipped around trying to see what it was but the darkness, darkness mocked him. 

"Breathe." 

Another thud, this time it was closer, louder. The thought of running crossed his mind but just as it did another thud rang out, this time from his left. It was moving all around him. Whatever was lurking in the dark abyss was watching, hunting him.

"You're fine."

Two loud thuds. Whatever this was had gotten closer again.

"You're okay."

Four more thuds. The sound made his whole body quiver as it walked circles around him. Getting closer and closer with each step.

"Breathe."

Six more thuds and then…

He shut his eyes. He refused to look into the darkness. He focused on his breathing making sure his heartbeat stayed at a stable rhythmic pace. 

"I'm okay. Just breathe. I'm okay. Just breathe." He repeated. He could feel a cold breeze right in front of his face followed by a dim light being shined at him. Yet he refused to open his eyes, just repeating calming words to himself.

"I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm-"

"You wretched little-

Leo let out a loud gasp as he shot up from the hospital bed. Hands quickly moved to calm him down followed by muffled yelling of his name. He fought against them the best he could only to be held down with his arms pinned by his older brother.

"Leo it's us! It's us!" Raph shouted as he made sure he wouldn't rip off any of the needles or tubs connected to him. "Casey, go grab Pops!" 

"Leo! Hey buddy we're right here." April said as she gently took his face in her hands. She was careful enough not to move the oxygen mask off his face. Leo blinked his eyes rapidly, allowing them to adjust to the bright lights. April's face slowly coming into focus. "There we go. See you're safe. We're right here."

Leo glanced around the room, Raph was to his right keeping his arms down while April stood to his left. Looking towards the door he heard Casey running with Splinter hot on his trail.

"My son, you're awake." Splinter said as he made his way over. Raph gently let go of his brother's arms and stepped back to allow their dad to get a look at him. 

"How do you feel, bud?" Raph asked as he moved to allow Casey to get a look at the red-ear slider. 

Leo glanced around the room once more. Two are missing.  Mikey was missing. His eyes rapidly moved around searching for his baby brother. The heart monitor's beeping increased. April noticed and gently rubbed circles on his cheeks.
