after she has shared her secret with valtteri, everything had become a breath of fresh air. she no longer felt tied down, worried, like her past was going to catch up to her and sabotage her happiness again. she had tucked the ultrasound away in her wallet, and occasionally looked at it, like she did before but this time valtteri was there with her. he would also look at the photo and wonder what life would be like had his girlfriend had a child with her ex husband.

his words echoed in her mind a lot, that everything happens for a reason. for once she was at peace with it all.

the summer was one of the best of dima's life. they couple had decided that they hadn't been able to enjoy beirut as much as they could have last time and visited for the second time in 2 months. he never knew how lively of a city it could be considering he was used to the peace and quiet of finland.

when they returned, with dima more tanned and valtteri more red, it was just her and valtteri lounging around, going on picnics and walks, driving past their childhood homes and taking deep breaths in. it was like reliving the past.

she has reunited with valtteri's parents, who looked the happiest to see them. she felt smug at the treatment they were giving her, childishly poking out her tongue at valtteri who felt as neglected as she did when they were at her parents house in beirut.

they had even made a pit stop at their old neighbour whose mailbox was sabotaged by the couple in their teenage years. when the old man opened the door, his face was overtook by a smile at the sight of the two holding hands looking as in love as ever.

'i had always known you two would get together. you are just a few years late.' he concluded before inviting them to sit down for lunch.

it felt so domestic and wholesome to valtteri, whose previous marriage in comparison had descended into a public nightmare. this relationship was calm, collected, yet it was not boring at all. he enjoyed the mundane little things they did, whether it was going on walks or simply just laying down in bed, talking to one another. he never knew how comfortable it could be to read together in silence, with his head in her lap as she ran his fingers through his hair.

it had made him care so much less that he was going to be kicked out of the team this year. he was going to be leaving mercedes for sure and toto had been working hard to guarantee him a spot on another good team. it was just not going to be announced until september time.

dima was working a few weeks over the summer, seeing as she had felt bad about the extended work load she had left for her closest friend and colleague marjana.

she would go over to the office, with a wedding dress store adjacent to it, and stay there for a few hours while valtteri relaxed at home, catching up on the rests that his frequent flights cost him.

dima rested her cup of coffee on her work desk as she sunk into her chair. the sun was out and gave helsinki the best look it got in the entire year. in dima's opinion, of course.

'don't get too comfortable, the dragon lady is coming in half an hour to pick her dress.'

'again?' dima groaned as she saw the amused look on her friends face. they had a new client who had wanted a quick wedding except she did everything possible for that to not be the case.

when MARJANA nodded her head, dima felt like sinking even further into her chair. she just wanted to go home to valtteri. her own apartment was almost entirely forgotten ever since they had made things official between them.

'if she can't pick a dress then she'll just have to buy all of the ones she wants. i'm sure she can afford it.'

'no, she was just waiting for her fiancé to come and pick it with her?'

dima was surprised. she knew there were many modern brides who wanted everyone's opinion on their wedding dress to be heard but her fiancé picking it with her? this was new, even to dima.

dima just shook her head and got down to budgeting the costs of the said wedding before her client arrived.

she looked up to the clock and groaned as she noted that her difficult client was late. she turned to her phone and was considering texting valtteri when marjana walked in with a grim look on her face.

'she's here..'

'what's with the look?' dima raised her eyebrow at the younger woman, wondering what could have brought up such a grimace.

she didn't beat around the bush, and just spat out the words.

'lukas is here too.'
