The world depicted is completely fictitious. It is based on the fantasy 'Guideverse' where society is divided into espers, guides, and normal citizens. Espers, because of their superpowers, have a duty to protect society and fight monsters. Guides are people who help them reduce the danger of using power, which always has side effects. These side effects are eliminated by the healing power of the guide. Monsters emerge from another dimension, most often in the form of mutated animals or ghosts. They feed on people.
The most effective way to heal espers is sexual intercourse although some exceptional guides are able to guide/heal without touching. They are called A-ranked guides.
The espers with extraordinary abilities are able to develop sub-powers. Sometimes sub-powers are as strong as the main ability.
The hierarchy among espers and guides is as follows:
a level in the hierarchy depends on skill, power, and durability
S-ranked - the most powerful ones. Only espers are ranked with 'S', no guide has such power to achieve this level. S-ranked efficiency is much higher, they can last longer without any guidance but it's recommended for them to receive guidance once in a while.
A-ranked - the highest level for guides. In the whole country, there are usually a few guides ranked that high. A-ranked Espers are sent on missions to fight monsters and prevent a massacre.
B-ranked - guides with this rank are highly respected and usually protected by law. B-ranked espers are usually responsible for the safety and protection of citizens. Sometimes they stand in the line of defense.
C-ranked - the most common
D-ranked - the lowest level, espers with this rank are usually lab employees(but it's very rare to find an esper with that low level), and guides are forced to work in centers providing espers help at any time
