Athena's POV:

I can't breathe.

Simple yet horrifying.

Pounding footsteps fill my ears.

I can't breathe.

Why? What's going on?

Blackness invaded my mind.

Beep. Beep.

My eyes flutter open but quickly shut from the sudden blinding white sterile sense overdose.

"Shh. You're okay, baby." A voice I wasn't expecting filled my ears.

My sense of touch returns as I begin to make out the feeling of someone holding my hand. Slowly, ever so slowly, I turn my head.

My vision falls on a hand holding mine and playing with the promise ring on my finger.

Wait, what? Since when did I get a promise ring?

My steady breathing quickly vanishes into short and shallow breaths. My chest constricts; my heart pumps blood faster and faster forcing my lungs to work overtime.

"Shh. Calm. No, no, you're okay. Don't panic."

My eyes flick up to see Dyl-wait, what?! Why the hell is he here?

My breathing comes in and out faster and shorter. Where's Dylan? Why isn't he here? I need him, not this asshole.

His eyes held worry and pain. Why the hell is he in pain? We're not mates. He isn't the one who couldn't breathe.

"Sarah, please stay calm. Please. You're okay."

My eyes widen. He couldn't even call me by my real name? I'm his damn sister for crying out loud. More beeping. The deafening beeping grew louder and faster right along with my heart beat.

"No, no, no!" Cameron yells. "No, stay with me." He held my hand tighter and he came over to sit on the edge of the bed.

The more he talked, the more confused and panicked I became. Suddenly Dr. Lennon and many nurses came barging into the room.

"Alpha, I'm going to need you to move." Dr. Lennon politely but urgently told him.

Still my breathing was fast and rapid constantly going in and out way to fast.

"No, I need to stay!" Cameron yells panic seeping into his voice.

"You can but you need to back away." Dr. Lennon's voice calmly tells him trying to soothe Cameron.

"But-But..." Cameron stutters through looking even more panicked and scared.

"Sir, you need to let go of her hand. She is losing feeling."

I looked down at our hands to see my hand completely enveloped in his death grip. His knuckles turning white. How can I not feel that? Oh my Goddess, he is hurting me!

I can't feel anything. This sudden realization makes my heart work even faster.

"No, no baby. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you." Cameron gasps and lets go of my hand.
