Chapter 2

China has

always loved when she got to wear dresses. That was her favorite piece of cloth.

She was wearing a red medium high dress and very high heels. She curled her

hair and prepared herself for the night. Someone knocked on the door and she

answered it.

"Elder

Bespoke." China smiled politely.

"Beautiful China."

Ghastly was wearing a suit and a blue tie. Behind him was standing Dexter Vex,

smiling at China. "I hope you don't mind Dex."

"Of course

not." China let both of the men in the library.

"How are

you tonight, China?" Dex asked.

"I am

pretty fine, what about you?" China said, trying to sound classy.

"I am

feeling good myself, thank you miss Sorrows." Dex said and with that the three

of them laughed. They never talked like this to each other before. Even when

they met, they weren't that classy. Maybe it was because they were too distant.

Or maybe because of China and Dex's past.

"Are we

going, Miss Sorrows?" Ghastly asked, laughing.

"Why, of

course, Elder Bespoke." China said, smiling.

"I am

pretty sure he is called Gladys." Dexter joked. Ghastly glared at him. China's

beautiful blue eyes landed on Dexter. His eyes found hers and he admired the

gorgeous woman standing in front of him. Ghastly just stood there, feeling

awkward, because Dex was staring at China for what seemed like centuries.

"Umm...will

we go?" Asked Ghastly.

"Yeah...yes."

Vex rubbed the back of his neck. Then the three of them went to the ball.

The music

had already started but Valkyrie Cain was still not at the ball. She was late again.

Eventually, put on a blue dress little above her knee. Valkyrie also had to put

on make-up which she used to hate. However, she didn't hate it anymore but she

just wasn't a fan. The girl had also put on a pair of high heels. She had

straightened her hair and finally she was ready. Valkyrie called a taxi and got

to Gordon Edgley's house. No, her house. A few minutes later, she was in the

house, greeting people. Soon enough Skulduggery Pleasant walked to her.
