“ARE YOU OKAY?”HELIA ASKED AS HER AND Nick wandered down from the school to the lake, both having to get ready for their teams partaking in the Poe Cup that afternoon. She had noticed that he looked particularly down today, that was in comparison to his usual bubbly self.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Nick assured her, and he quickly changed the conversation before she even had time to ask if it was about Bianca last night. He made sure to wipe the sadness of his face, a strained smile replacing it. “Are you ready to get your ass beat?”
Helia smirked to herself, knowing what her, Wednesday and Enid had planned. “I wouldn’t be too cocky this year, Nicholas. The Black Cats have been preparing.”
“So have the Gold Bugs,” Nick informed her, matter-of-factly. “Seriously. We may have even gone overboard this year. It’s crazy what Bianca has planned.”
“As long as no one gets murdered, it’s fair game,” Helia shrugged, the two entering the small campsites set out along the bank of the water, students milling by the boardwalk, awaiting the competition to start. “She’s not planning to get anyone murdered, right?”
“Not that I’m aware of,” Nick said, not seeming entirely sure himself. “Either way, we both need to get dressed, so I'm leaving. Break a leg, literally.”
