Day 23 Prompt: Historical
Title: Twenty-Three
The trenches are full of bodies, it is a historical fact they were killed by
Weapons of war that poisoned them and the soil, in which they were buried, but
Everywhere you look during spring and summer their spirits shine brightly
Nodding in the breeze at
The head of a glorious blood-red poppy, in remembrance of our
Youthful ancestors, who gave their lives for what
-
They believed would be a better place, a
Home sweet home for their children, but their forsaken
Remains have been desecrated by landfill waste, and
Everywhere you look another black hole appears to engulf a natural habitat
Even so, poppies stand proud on the margins, nodding their disapproval as forgotten warriors across the world turn in their graves
