But when I entered the kitchen, something awaited me that I had not expected at all.

Jay chased after a little boy who couldn't be more than seven years old and roared like a lion while the boy tried to avoid him laughing and his blond hair kept falling into his eyes. The same blond hair that Jay had.

It turned out that the little boy's name was Jake and he was Jay's little brother. He was a sweet boy and I took him right into my heart. He was happy and boisterous and somehow he reminded me a lot of his brother in his carefree nature.

While Jay divided the ramen into three portions, Jake and I sat at the table and talked while playing some sort of gossip game.

"So how old are you?" I asked the little boy, who met my hand with his little one and cried out triumphantly. "Seven." he said proudly, straightening up a little as if to show how tall he already was.

I smiled and played along, slapping my hands over my mouth in surprise. "No. That old already?" He nodded with a grin. I took my hands off my face leaned over to him and tousled his hair "And you still look like a dwarf at that.", I provoked him as well.

His look changed and grimly he pulled his eyebrows together, I knew this expression from Jay too and with all the similarity I had to smile intuitively. "I'm not short. Especially not for my age." he protested, which I only acknowledged with skeptically raised eyebrows. "But you're also very short for being an adult," he now turned the tables.

"I'm still growing," I lied, noticing Jay standing next to me and placing a plate of noodles in front of me. "She's not." he said, winking at his brother, to which I gave him a poke in the side. The two of them laughed and I crossed my arms in front of my chest in a huff and pulled a pout.

Jay came to the table a second time and put water on the table before sitting down at the end of the table. the end of the table. "Bon appetit." He said, and as if on cue, Jake grabbed his chopsticks and began scarfing down the noodles.

Amused, I watched him and reached for my own chopsticks. My gaze flitted briefly over to Jay and when I noticed that he was also looking at me with a smile, I felt my cheeks redden a little, embarrassed I lowered my eyes to my plate.

"Ish that ths grl you're alwaysh takin aboutsh?" Jake asked cheekily with his mouth full, so I wasn't sure if I had heard correctly. I glanced at Jay, who returned it briefly and then grabbed the back of his neck and turned to his little brother.

"You're not supposed to talk with your mouth full." He reprimanded him, skipping over the question. Jake rolled his eyes and swallowed the noodles he had in his mouth, then grinned cheekily at Jay. "So, is she?"

My eyes darted from one brother to the other and it seemed like they were having an eye duel. I wonder if he was really talking about me. Jake looked to me when his brother didn't answer him "Have you been on a date with him in the last two weeks?" he asked and I just nodded in response.

Jay let out a soft sigh and my eyes drifted back to him. "So she is." The little one chuckled and I noticed that Jay actually looked a little embarrassed after all. "He talks about you almost all the time. Told me you write great poetry." Grinning, he looked down at his noodles, "I bet he even tried to write you one himself."

I listened to Jake with interest and propped my head on my hand. Just as Jake opened his mouth to continue talking, Jay suddenly pushed his chair back and within seconds was standing behind his brother, covering his mouth.

"I think you're done eating," he said in a dark voice and gently pulled Jake off the chair, taking his hand from his mouth. He tried desperately to kick his way out of his grip, but couldn't. Jay dragged him all the way into the hallway, where I then heard him complain; "But I'm still hungry."

"Then I'll bring you up another serving right now and you can watch TV upstairs in my room for a half hour." Jay suggested and his little brother laughed triumphantly. "All right." He agreed and then his footsteps sounded on the stairs and a moment later Jay came into the kitchen.

He rubbed the back of his neck again in embarrassment and looked at me sheepishly. "Sorry." He said and I smiled indulgently before adopting a teasing tone. "So you talk about me all the time?" I wanted to know provocatively.

Jay looked at the table and started to clear it, immediately I stood up and helped him.  "He was exaggerating, I was just mentioning that I was dating you," he weakened his brother's statement. Suddenly his face changed from embarrassed to mischievous and he raised his eyebrows "Do you care if I talk about you?"

I blushed again and looked to the side. "Do you want me to bring your brother's food up?" I asked, trying to get off the subject and already filling another plate with noodles. Jay waved it off and took the finished food from my hand. "No I'll take care of it. Just wait here."

With these words he disappeared up the stairs and left me in the kitchen. I looked at the dishes standing next to the sink and decided without further ado to put them in the dishwasher, then I wet a rag and wiped the table with it.

Just then I glanced at my cell phone when I heard a clearing of the throat. I looked up and caught sight of Jay standing there leaning against the doorframe, watching me with a smile. When he met my gaze, my heart warmed and the corners of my mouth lifted almost automatically.

"So, do you want me to show you where you can sleep this night?" he asked and I just nodded in confirmation and then followed him up the stairs to his room. I helped him get the bed freshly made and reassured myself that it was really okay for me to stay here.

Jay had a TV in his room and after putting his brother to bed, we sat in his bed together and watched a movie. Towards the end of the movie I kept dozing off and I was relieved when it ended and Jay turned off the TV before he left the room and I could lie down.

Even though we had reupholstered the blanket and the rest, I smelled his personal scent and amazingly it didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
