"Are you stupid or are you dumb?" Yara asks me as Olivia walks away.
I knew the judgement would be coming from my friends. But I was hoping they would at least let me enjoy my cheesesteak first.
"Neither!"
"Well, just say you don't really like the girl because you can't possibly think you'll be able to date her, if you don't tell her the truth." She follows and Ashton seems to disagree by the way he kisses his teeth. "What happened to I'm celebrating her half birthday and then telling her about the text messages?"
"As soon as I was going to tell her, she got a call about her little brother. It was bad enough already. I couldn't add to that."
"Whether she gets bad news or not, don't tell that girl anything." Ashton cuts in.
"You're an idiot if you listen to an idiot," Yara comments and I inhale before exhaling. "And all you're giving is excuses."
"What was I supposed to do?" I question and she shakes her head before looking at me disappointedly. "I'm going to talk to her. I just don't want to add stress to her life. Is that so wrong?"
"Typically, no! But you're walking around with her dead ex's number. So yes! Yes, it's wrong!"
"Ignore her and let me solve all of your problems, like I often do!" Ashton interjects as he looks me in my eyes.
"His IQ and shoe sizes match. So good luck letting him solve your problems!" Yara mumbles before folding her arms in frustration.
"Two words—- Google voice!" Ashton comments slowly as he snaps his fingers to take my attention away from Yara's annoyed look. "Get you a google number and hit that girl up. She ain't got to know shit."
"Okay, chill out." I reply and they both listen closely. "I'll ask her to meet up with me after cheesesteak night, so I can tell her everything."
"You had me until you said you were going to tell her everything. That's not really necessary." Ashton insist and I ignore him.
"Not only is it necessary, it's mandatory." Yara counters.
"Y'all have never been in this situation before. It's not as easy as you think." I state seriously. "I like this girl. It's just she has a lot of things going on in her life. I can't be careless with her feelings. Besides, my mom's going to change the number soon. That way we can put the whole text message thing behind us."
"If your mom's going to change your number, why tell her in the first place?" Ashton asks and I won't pretend like that hasn't crossed my mind.
"Because no girl deserves to be lied to. But you know what? Do what you want! This whole situation seems like one big joke to me, anyway." Yara says with an attitude and I sigh before the mood of the cafeteria shifts to the sound of the 'Wobble' beat.
