CHAPTER 11

I left Gertrude in a bad mood after arguing with her in the toilet, and I also left the person with us for Gertrude to deal with. After all, if she can't deal with that extra person, her mood will suffer greatly.

I joined the banquet and approached Debra, who was having a good time with some acquittances.

I quickly caught up to this circle with a smile and began to chat happily. I simply ignored the ladies who desired drama; after all, I wouldn't gain anything by exchanging words with them.

In my opinion, the banquet was not particularly joyous. It was full of people fawning over the wealthy and such. I was getting tired of the drama, and after frightening Gertrude, who had left earlier because she wasn't feeling well, there was no more entertainment for me.

The banquet finally ended around eleven o'clock, and I was relieved. Clark was there to pick me up, and Debra accompanied me. We dropped her off at her house first before heading to the apartment to rest.

I was so exhausted when I arrived that I simply washed, changed into my nightgown, and went to bed.

I awoke refreshed the next morning and began preparing for work as usual.

Days flew by in a blur, and during that time, I was preoccupied with reading the news, which, to be honest, captivated me.

Gertrude and Mike, both didn't bother me. I'm sure they were all preoccupied with the disaster and the attacks on their various businesses.

Mike's love scandals had passed him by, but that didn't mean that other issues hadn't arisen.

She certainly knows what she's doing when the godmother starts moving. Mike's business is in real estate, and in a matter of days, hail began to fall on the property.

The value of the stock was falling, and the man was doing everything he could to save himself.

What I didn't expect was Mike, with whom I hadn't spoken in days, to find me at work.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting to see him here, especially given the circumstances. I would have been scared if it hadn't been Clark and the other guys protecting me, but I didn't need to be afraid of him and what he could do to me.

Mike was clearly taken aback when he saw how many men surrounded the café. I'm sure he didn't expect things to change so drastically in such a short period.

"Oh, it looks like you've met someone new!" Mike scoffed as he approached the bodyguards, who were staring at him and impeding his progress.

"Let him pass," I said as I turned to look at Clark, "you'll only attract the attention of others!"

I instructed Clark after noticing that some of the shop owners in my neighborhood were becoming interested in my business.

Mike had lost his charming and handsome appearance in such a short period. Depression, stress, and misfortune were all weighing heavily on him. Just by looking at him, I could tell he hadn't slept well in a long time.

"Umphhh!" he scoffed as he walked into the café after the bodyguards cleared the way.

Because there were no customers in the café, I simply closed it and took Mike to the third floor. My and Mike's bodyguards were both downstairs, keeping each other at bay.

Mike didn't even wait for me to offer him a seat but made himself at home as soon as we walked into my office.

Seeing him so relaxed in my office didn't bother me, so I took a seat as well.

"What are you doing here?" I asked coldly, looking at the man I'd despised for six years and still despised.

"I've been wondering about a lot of things during this period and I just can't get it," Mike said as he looked at me with a puzzled expression on his face.

"All of my past and present affairs have been exposed, but only you survived," he shook his head, his gaze still fixed on me, "please tell me something. Are you the one who is to blame for this?"

I was taken aback when I heard this. Mike caught me off guard because I wasn't expecting him to question me in this manner or to find the source of his problems so quickly. But, since it had already been revealed in this manner, I didn't mind just being honest with him.

At the very least, he will fight knowing exactly who he is up against.

"Ummm, I exposed your business. You hurt me so much by lying to me, and your wife humiliated me in public by calling me a homewrecker. Did I beg you to keep coming to me when you wooed me? Why should I suffer because you caused all of this trouble?" As I faced Mike, I asked calmly and coldly.

Mike's eyes flickered for a moment, and I cut him off just as he was about to say something.

"I'm not sure where that fairy came from, but when I saw those photos, I had one goal in mind: to expose you and cause you pain for everything you've put me through."

Mike stared at me incredulously, "so, just because of that, you uploaded the photos and caused me to lose that much?"

I scoffed as I saw Mike's rage. What was the point of getting upset over something so insignificant when he had done so much to her and others?

"How can you say it's a trivial matter? This is not a trivial matter. If you had a conscience, you would have been honest and paid the ransom money, but you thought you were still the high and mighty Mike and didn't heed the warnings. See where it takes you!"

Regardless of how angry the other person is, I scoffed at him.

"You_"

"Rather than coming here and pointing fingers at me, Mike. I would advise you to go and save your company or whatever you have now. It appears that your enemies aren't playing at all," I laughed at him, intrigued by the prospect of him suffering even more than he is now.

Mike stood up angrily and marched towards me. I didn't move and just sat there, waiting for him to do whatever he wanted.

Mike, who had never raised his hand in my presence before, did so for the first time. I closed my eyes and waited for the hand to land on my face, but it never did.

When I heard his phone ring, I opened my eyes and looked at his glum expression as he answered the phone, "shit! Do you have no idea how to handle it? I'll be there as soon as possible. Just put them off!"

I could tell something big was about to happen based on the way he was speaking. And whatever it was, it was most likely the main course.

"When I pass this crisis," Mike yelled angrily at me, "I will return for you. Just hope I deal with it, or else I'll make you regret everything you did to me!"

The man then left the office, leaving me trembling in my chair.

'Damn, that was terrifying!'
