as the first droplet fell on your nose, you knew what was coming from the sudden wetness that followed. "it's going to rain soon." carl says, you hold your hand out to feel if there were any more falling water drops anywhere. the two of you turned to each other, both realizing that you needed to find shelter somewhere fast before the weather decided to get angry.

you and carl hurried under a giant oak tree. with flourishing branches of colored leaves to provide some protection from the outside storm. you reached the safe point just in time, at first it started as nothing but a brisk summer sprinkle. but then quickly turned into a downpour.

he glanced at you with his baby blue orbs. "wanna make a run for it?" he asked to which you thought he was crazy. could he not feel the whipping winds and hear the roaring thunder in the distance? no way you would risk being soaked running through an open field just to get struck by a lightning bolt.

"are you insane? i'm not going out there." you hiss looking upwards at the angry grey storm clouds that covered every inch of the once clear blue skies. a rumble of thunder made you jump at the sudden loud boom that erupted in your ears. only then did carl catch on to what was happening.

"you're scared of thunderstorms?" he asked, it wasn't so much of a question than fact. you had always hated storms, the way the winds gushed debris in every possible direction without any warning. the way the violent winds sliced daggers of raindrops into your skin. you hated it, you couldn't stand being exposed out in the rain.

you gradually nodded your head, knowing he would make fun of you for having a fear of something as simple as the weather. "well i love the rain." he started. "i love how it taps on the roof when i'm trying to fall asleep, i like how calm it can get, its soothing to be in." carl rambled off as he stepped out from the safety of the tree, you thought he had lost his mind.

that was it, he was crazy. he took the sheriff hat in his hand and raised his head towards the heavens. just allowing for the rain to soak his clothes and drip down his face. "it's warm!" he shouts so that you could hear him over the downpour. you watched as he stuck his tongue out like he was trying to catch snowflakes.

slowly, you loosened your grip on the tree and stepped out. feeling the gentle rain repeatedly tap at the top of your head as you took each step with caution. he glanced over at you with his simmering ocean orbs and a soft smile on his lips. "it's not that bad, is it?" he asked as you stood next to him.

pointing your nose towards the sky and letting the shower brush over your delicate skin. he was right, the summer rain was the warmest water you've felt since the apocalypse began. all was going well until there was a surprising boom of thunder that made goosebumps appear on your skin. your arms wrapped tightly around carl's torso. burring your face in his chest as he was pushed back a few steps.

"hey, it's okay." he reassured you, embracing you in his arms as you pressed up against the damp fabric of his shirt. "promise?" you say, backing up just enough to look him in his baby blue eyes. "i promise," he answered with that soft smile engraved on his lips. releasing your grip around his frame you trusted him. he has never lied to you before, why would he start now?

you chuckled as the lukewarm water soaked your body from the tips of your hair to the bottoms of your muddy shoes. you mimicked the behavior carl had shown you earlier. sticking your tongue out as the water drops fell one by one in your mouth. "you wanna see something really cool?" he asked and you would be the insane one not to accept.

he grabbed ahold of your hand, intertwining your fingers as he knowingly led you out into the middle of the grassy field. carl showed you various ways to have fun when the rain clouds took over. jumping in puddles, playing rain tag, anything to keep your mind off the booming thunder in the distance.

and to be honest, it was working. you seemed a lot less skittish around the sudden roars and were able to tune out the noises. focusing on the moment as you played around in the dampened field. you giggled, looking upwards at the raging storm clouds. and for some reason, they seemed a whole lot less scary to you now that carl was by your side.
