Knock knock.

I turned my head to the door. Could it be? No he mustn't have followed me I was so careful. I step closer and every inch closer I get, my heart beats faster. I grab a knife from the kitchen and hide it behind be before swinging open the door.

Why am I not surprised. Blythe.

"What do you want now." I say in annoyance.

"Y/n listen, I really want to be friends and I couldn't help but feel you were on edge in Charlottetown today and I just wanted to let you know that I'm here if you want to talk" he says with a smile.

I couldn't, even if I wanted to.

"Great thanks see you at school" I say with a sarcastic smile as I go to shut the door but just then he puts his foot in-front of the door, denying me to close it.

I open the door with an annoyed but confused expression.

"Y/n I just want you to know I truly, honestly didn't say that about you and Billy." He says apologetically.

Then why is everyone in school saying it's him. Does he seriously take me for a fool?

"Right okay." I say before slamming the door in a hurry so it would actually close those time.

I don't care how he felt on the other side of that door, he totally deserves it.

To spend the next hour I studied then headed of to bed before updating my diary, as usual.

2 weeks later...

Still no sign of mother, which left me in betrayal the last two weeks although the feeling had worn off after a while.

As I enter the school building, I see Mrs Lynde and her husband. What are they doing here I wonder.

As I hang up my scarf and hat, I didn't bother to get my books out as I see no one else did and all the tables were pushed back. I walk over to Anne, Cole, and Diana.

"What's going on?" I ask.

They all had excited grins on there faces before explaining.

"Oh my no one must've told you! In Avonlea there's an annual fair that takes place in the meadows and at night there's a dance almost like a ball and all of Avonlea will be attending!" Anne says in delight.

"Hence why Mr and Mrs Lynde is here, to show us the dances!" Cole says.

Must be fun, they all seem bursting with joy.

"When is this fair ball thingy anyway?" I ask.

"In a weeks time from now!" Diana replies.

"Chop Chop! form in a line children" Mrs Lynde projects.

"As you are well aware it is time for the annual fair, and that means prep time! Now I will assign partners and groups shortly after the demonstration."

Mr Lynde plays some music as the adults form in two lines facing one another and demonstrates the dance.

"Easy as pie! Now group 1; Josie with Charlie, Tilly with James, and Ruby with Billy. Group 2: Anne with Cole, Diana with Moody, and Y/n with Gilbert." She finishes.

"What?!" I accidentally blurted out.

"Is there a problem Miss Holmes!?" Mr Philips says in an angry tone.

"Nope, no problem at all." I say clenching my jaw.

As we all walk into our partners and groups Gilbert greets me and gives a smile in which I exchange with a sarcastic one. As the music play and Mrs Lynde counts us in we bow and curtsy to our partners. Ugh.

I go to hold Gilbert's hand as he places his hand around my waist and mine on his shoulder. As we follow the steps I couldn't help but feel a spark...

Snap out of it Y/n it's just the music! Although I could t help myself smiling at Gilbert as he did too. As we separated and turned to the partners by our sides I quickly wiped the smile of my face. I clear my throat as the song ends hearing Mr Philips say it's lunch. I go to get my lunch and walk outside with Anne, Diana, and Cole.

"So is it just me or did Y/n actually seem happy being so close to Gilbert Blythe." Cole says with a grin as the others agreed.

"Uh, I.. was not! I just... like dancing..." I say in confusion for my own feelings.

As they all laugh I stood up and went to get my book from inside and as I enter I hide behind the corner as I hear Billy and his friends talking about me.

"Bro did you see Y/n, she looked happy with Gilbert a second ago." Billy's friend says.

Billy scoffs

"Yeah right, she literally hates his guts after that rumour I blamed on him for" he laughs.

I feel an intense rush of guilt flow over me as I stand in realisation that Gilbert was telling the truth the whole time... I feel so awful.
As lunch ends I sit down and write a note to Gilbert in class.

Gilbert,
Please meet me at the cherry tree after school.

Y/n.

As I throw the note to him secretly he picks it up and reads it and looks at me and nods.

As the lesson ends I grab my stuff, head outside and already see Gilbert already stood beneath the tree, well that sure was quick. I walk over to him with a smile.

"Never thought I'd see a smile on your face to me" he says chuckling.

"Keep taking it won't be here for long" I say sarcastically.

"What did you want to say?" He asks.

"Oh right, I just want to apologise, I've been such a jerk to you and you don't even deserve it, I overheard Billy, admitting it was hun who spread that rumour. I just feel awful the way I've been tearing you and-"

"Y/n, it's okay" he laughs.
"I'm just glad you've seen who Billy truly is."

"Yea me too" I say.

"So does this mean we're good?"
He asks.

"I think it's safe to say so." I reply.

"Friends?" He says gesturing out his hand to shake.

"Friends." I saw as we both smile while I shake his hand.

"Well I should be going." I say.

"Oh uh yea course."

"See you tomorrow?" I say

"See you tomorrow." He replies.

As I walk home I can't help but feel overjoyed.

As I enter inside I prepare and eat dinner and go upstairs to update my diary writing all about my excitement for the annuals Avonlea fair and finally making up with Gilbert! After that I then went to sleep.

Sincerely Y/n
