"No, Chaewon."
"Jayoung, please!"
"No!"
"Jayoungie~! Please, please, please!"
"Oh my goddess, fine! Fine. I will communicate with a goddamn avidian with you!" You groaned in defeat.
"Finally," Chaewon squealed, childishly clapping her hands. For the past hour, she had been trying to get you to try out some new gadget with her, to see if you could actually talk and interact with an avidian, but you continuously and adamantly refused. Who the hell would willingly want to do that? Definitely not you.
"Relax, Jayoung, this probably won't even work!"
Chaewon was quick to run to the living room and light the few candles that were sitting on the small coffee table, after turning off the lights. Once she was done, she ran back to the kitchen and dragged you back to the living room by your sleeve.
"Okay, Jayoung. Let's get started. I already read all about this and how to use it, so as long as you listen to what I, the expert, say, we shouldn't have any problems! Oh, I'm so excited, aren't you?"
A whine slipped past your lips, clearly indicating that you'd rather be doing something else, but you continued with the other's idea of fun, nonetheless.
You gasped when you felt her place something cold on your thighs. "Chae, what the fuck! That's cold!"
She continued to place a couple more stones on your thighs, and then placed one in both of your palms. You sighed.
"Sorry about that!" Chaewon giggled, making you roll your eyes.
"Ugh. Let's just get this over with, please," you grumbled. You didn't want to admit it, but deep down, you were actually pretty curious too.
"Okay, first things first, I'll tell you a few things," Chaewon started, looking into your eyes. "After we ask a question, there could be one of two reactions from the stones. They could either not do anything, or glow and project an answer. Got it?"
You nodded.
"Good. Next, I read that you should say something along the lines of no negative energy welcome, but to hell with that. I'm a real woman!" Chaewon exclaimed, puffing her chest out.
"Chae, you literally cried this morning when you saw a roa-"
"Anyway! Let's start with a simple question, an easy one." Chaewon closed her eyes and held her hands, which had the stones in them, in front of her, so you did the same. "Is there anybody here?" She asked enthusiastically.
You both opened your eyes to see the answer. You saw nothing, so you decided to give it a shot.
You closed your eyes for a moment. "Yah. Is anybody here?" You quietly asked.
When you opened your eyes, you were surprised to see the stones glowing brightly, and the word yes being projected from the stones in glittery, translucent letters. Your eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.
"W-Won, are you seeing what I'm seeing? Please tell me you are." You couldn't believe what you were seeing. This must be some kind of joke.
"I- I-I did."
It was silent for a few moments, before Chaewon thought of her next question.
"How- How many?" She asked.
Once again, the stones lit up, this time projecting the number one.
"Okay, uhm... Are you nice?"
"Really, Jayoung-"
"Shut up." You pouted. "I'm curious."
You were silenced when the stones projected the word depends, which made you and Chaewon shiver.
"I don't think we should keep going, Chaewon," you mumbled, anxiously setting the stones down on the coffee table. Why did you agree to this in the first place?
"No, Jayoung! Y-You shouldn't put them down!" Chaewon warned. Her voice had raised in pitch.
"Why?"
"Because I don't know what happens if you do! The- The avidian might get mad, or- or- or-"
"Let's not think like that, Chae! Let's just go to bed," you whispered. A sudden wave of unease washed over you, causing you to shiver once again.
"Goodnight, Chae," you muttered, before running to your room.
