"why does everything have to be so fucking hard with you?!"
sapnap continues to tie his laces, trying his best to ignore the screaming in the lounge just by him.
"you're fucking delusional woman, i try to be good and you just piss me off! it's you that makes everything so difficult! like, jesus christ, get a grip!"
the ravenette gets up off of the stairs, grabbing his backpack from where it was hung over the bannister.
"you know what? fuck you. you were right yesterday, i want a divorce!"
sapnap stops dead in his tracks, holding his breath like he holds at hope, one hand waiting on the doorknob as he listens out.
"fucking finally! do you know how long i've been waiting to get away from you?"
"probably just as long as i've despised you," his mother spits back, voice like venom. "you sit here and make love to your fucking beer, i'm going to go and start the fucking process of getting you out of my life."
sapnap moves quickly, slipping out the front door and pushing it quietly closed behind him before his mother had a chance to leave the lounge and see him eavesdropping.
he looks down the driveway, seeing karl waiting there in the driver's side of schlatt's car with a smile on his face. he waves, and sapnap returns the gesture as he practically skips down the front garden and makes his way to the car.
sapnap knows he is positively beaming as he settles down into the passenger's seat, clapping excitedly to himself once he's pulled on his seatbelt, and he's not surprised in the slightest when karl asks, "why are you so giddy?"
the brunette is smiling back as he asks and it makes sapnap smile even more, his cheeks almost hurting from the way they squeeze up against his eyes. "my parents might be getting a divorce!"
it should be funny, almost comical, how karl grins back- completely countering the usual response of hearing about someone's breakup. "i'm so happy for you," he replies, and the weirdness of the situation makes sapnap burst into sunlit laughter, pretty certain he may actually be glowing.
karl laughs too as he pulls out onto the road (sapnap doesn't mention how the brunette stalls the car- why would he when he's so busy being happy?).
he tries to stop laughing and get out of his head long enough to hold a conversation, but he can't stop his thoughts from memories of dark nights and panic attacks where he would pray to the stars to end his pain and now it might actually be happening! he loves his parents separately, but together they're his worse nightmare, and the chance that he might get to experience them both alone without the shadow of the other makes him beyond himself with glee.
he thinks that karl might be thinking over the bad times too, where he calmed sapnap down or sat, unable to help, as the ravenette broke down over the phone. sapnap suspects that karl is pleased for him, and that's why he's smiling equally as bright.
he knows it's abnormal to be so happy about this, but when all three parties are only at an advantage he can't see why he should care. everyone is going to be happier (besides maybe their bank accounts) and for the first time in years he doesn't feel like his family relationships will fix on a permanent standstill.
