Plopping himself in the passenger seat of my car, Oliver reached for the dial for the heater and turned it all the way up.
Noticing that I was watching him from the driver's seat, he grinned. "It's freezing out there." He blew on his hands as if to prove his point. His nose and cheeks were red from the cold walk from his house to my car. He was bundled up in a coat and scarf, the hood of his hoodie was pulled up over his blonde hair.
He looked cute.
He settled himself back into his seat and reached for the seatbelt. "What time do you think we'll be at the hotel?"
Glancing at the clock on the dash, I still couldn't believe it was the middle of the night. Normally I'd be sleeping at this time. Doing a rough calculation of driving time in my head, I turned back to Oliver. "Think we'll be at the hotel around lunchtime. If we don't make too many stops along the way."
"Cool."
I pulled out of the driveway of Oliver's house and drove along the dark road, the headlights on my car lighting the way, catching the glistening of the frost as it settled on the roads and sidewalks. The streets were quiet as we drove out of our chilly town, towards the highway and on route to Florida.
Casting a quick sideways glance, I could see Oliver on his phone, head down, the brightness of the screen lighting up his handsome face. My heart happily leapt in my chest. Butterflies fluttered around my stomach. Excitement flooded me.
I get to have Oliver all to myself for the weekend.
A whole two days in Florida with my guy.
To say I was thrilled is an understatement. I was so happy that I didn't mind leaving my house in the middle of the night to start the long drive towards the sunshine state. Because I knew I would get to spend time with Oliver.
Just me and him.
It was the weekend of our college tours there. I'd made sure I brought everything I needed for it, including my paperwork and references. I'd checked to see if Oliver had remembered his stuff, too. I was determined to get into this university and wanted to make a good impression on the faculty members who would be showing me around.
Oliver reached over and started messing with the heating dial again.
I chucked. "Are you still cold?" We'd only been on the road a few minutes, but the car had already started heating up nicely.
"Nah," he grumbled. "I'm getting too hot now."
I shook my head in amusement, hands firmly on the steering wheel. "Take your coat off then. You won't need it once we get to Florida anyway."
"But we're not there yet."
I threw him a sideways glance, only to find him sticking his tongue out at me, his button shaped nose scrunched up and a playful glint in his eye.
I smirked. "If you insist on sticking your tongue out, I can think of a much better use for it."
He slapped my arm. "Perv," he giggled.
"Damn right I am." The only thing I ever did was perv all over him. It was my favourite hobby. And I would happily admit it.

The drive was uneventful. There wasn't much traffic on the roads, so we were getting there faster than I originally thought. We stopped off at a roadside diner once the sun was starting to rise, to grab breakfast and coffee.
I needed a break from driving anyway.
After the waitress poured us both a coffee and told us that our food wouldn't be too long, I looked out of the window of the diner. We were seated in a booth right next to the window, which gave us the perfect view of the sun rising above the highway, turning the sky from inky black to dusky pink. The sun's golden rays were shooting across the changing sky. The fluffy clouds were painted orange as they floated above.
