~~~~~~ With Maddie and the others ~~~~~~
The group had run as fast as they could through the dense, dark woods. They stuck together so they wouldn't lose anyone along the way. After they had run for a long time, they decided that they were far enough away to sleep a little. It was too dark to continue anyways.
"There aren't any bears in here right?" Tucker asked, shivering at the thought.
"Of course not dear." Maddie said reassuringly. Although she wasn't even sure where they were so, she had no idea whatsoever.
Tucker visibly relaxed at that, now laying against a large tree.
"Go ahead and rest kids. Me and Jack will keep watch." Maddie told the three.
The three hesitated for a moment before complying. Glad to be able to sleep. Before Maddie and Jack knew it they heard soft snores coming from Tucker and Sam. "They look so peaceful don't they?" Maddie half asked, smiling as she looked at them. "That they do Mads, that they do."
Morning came quicker than expected. Maddie and Jack had taken turns on watch duty, and Sam, Jazz and Tucker were left to sleep. Now though, it was time to figure out where they were. And find Danny.
The group set out as soon as they could see well enough. They didn't have any food with them. Maddie mentally slapped herself for not at least taking the trays of food with them on their escape. She was really starting to regret it.
Along the way growls could be heard from both the things in the woods, as well as everyone's stomachs. They needed to find someone or something that could give them food, and water.
They walked, talked, stopped to rest and continued again. Finally they saw an opening ahead. Everyone's eyes instantly filled with hope. With that hope, they took off. Leaves and branches slapped them all over, but they didn't care.
They finally made it to the opening. They were out. Out of the dense woods. Free.
"YES!! I can't believe we made it!" Tucker shouted, face filled with pride and joy.
They were standing on a large hill of sorts, taking everything in.
Everyone stared at the land before them. It stretched for miles. They could clearly make out several towns sprinkled throughout. "It's beautiful!" Jazz said, completely amazed at the sight before her.
No one said anything else as they just admired the view. They stayed there for several minutes before they finally made their way down the somewhat steep hill.
"It looks like that town is only 3 or so miles ahead. It's not too far at least." Jack informed the group.
Everyone was going at a steady pace, watching their step as they went along. After all, no one wants a sprained ankle.
"I had a sprained ankle once. It was terrible! I could barely walk for a few days, the pain was so intense!" Sam spoke, grimacing at the memory.
"Yikes! Sounds awful! I'll definitely be way more careful now. Thanks!" Jazz said. However, as soon as she said that, she tripped on a rock and twisted her ankle.
Jazz cried out in pain, now on the ground holding her ankle. "Well, so much for being careful." Sam said, a bit irritated by the fact that they would be moving much slower than before.
Everyone knew the same as Sam, they would be slower. Too slow for anyone's liking. "Yeah well, I'm sorry okay!? Its not like I was trying to do that!" Jazz replied.
"I know I'm sorry. I just want to get out of here. And back to Danny!" Sam blurted out without thinking.
Jack and Maddie raised their eyebrows at that. Maddie quickly gave Sam a smile though. Sam smiled back, slightly embarrassed by what she said.
