AN: Written for _Joah_Shipper_ for winning my "Moving In" mini contest. Based on the prompt of Noah coming out as non-binary to Richelle and Jacquie.
August 2024
Noah really needs to talk to them. He's been putting it off for weeks. It's not going to change anything, he reassures himself, but he can't quite silence the tiny voice in the back of his head telling him that this is going to blow up in his face. He could just not tell them, is telling them really that important? But he's already decided that today was the day.
He's in between shows at the moment so he's been teaching kids musical theater classes at one of the local theaters which has given him a lot more time at home recently, mostly at night when Richelle and Jacquie are home too. It's nice being home at night though, eating dinner with his family instead of whenever he can find time backstage. Which is why he decides the best course of action is bringing it up during dinner. Despite having three bar stools for their kitchen island Richelle has settled on the kitchen counter near the stove and swings her feet gently into the cupboard as they eat.
"I'm non-binary," Noah blurts out during a quiet stretch. He didn't really have a plan other than telling them so it works. "I've been questioning my gender since I did & Juliet last year. He/him pronouns are still fine, but maybe also they/them pronouns too?" He doesn't tell them that he asked his work friends to help him experiment with pronouns. There was a week he tried using only they/them but it didn't feel right, and a few days trying out neopronouns, but those were wrong too. "I might change my mind later on that, but for now it's what feels best."
Richelle stops swinging her feet, which he only realizes when he can't hear them bang into the cupboard, "Okay. Do you want to use a different name?"
"No, my name is fine." They both ask a few more questions but it feels like a huge weight lifted off his chest, finally telling them. (That night he finally changes his pronouns on his website and his Instagram.)
AN: As a neopronoun user I will not have any hate in my comments about neopronouns.
