chapter 26: fawn's love

~fawn~

I'm glad that most days, I'm the one that wakes up before Marius because I want to take the opportunity to surprise him for his breakfast on his birthday just like he did on mine. Granted, I am the one that does most of the cooking for breakfast anyway simply because I love cooking, but I normally just do a simple breakfast. I want this one to be a grand breakfast for Marius.

By the time I wake up, it's around the time the twins will wake up, so I turn off the baby monitor beforehand, not wanting Marius to wake up at all.

I get out of bed and immediately head to the twins' room. Sure enough, they are awake at that point with Fern quietly crying and Harlow getting out of bed to see Fern. I walk over to Fern and pick her up. Her crying stops almost immediately, especially because I asked if she wanted to help me make breakfast.

Harlow wants to help too, so I get the two of them to help me make the breakfast they're going to have. Marius is going to eat a bit differently since I want to make him an amazing breakfast he doesn't normally have.

I know he will be satisfied with anything I make for breakfast, but considering acts of service are my love language, I would much rather cook an extravagant breakfast for Marius than to cook something I always cook.

Marius ends up waking up and getting out of bed before I'm even finished with breakfast, but I didn't really expect to make it a big surprise. We tend to get out of bed within the same hour, so it isn't a surprise that he woke up before I finished.

When Marius walks into the kitchen and sees me cooking, he doesn't really pay much attention to the food and instead walks up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing the side of my neck.

"Well, good morning to you too," I say. Lucky for Marius, I'm not doing anything urgent with the food, I'm just waiting for it to finish cooking, so I'm able to give him a bit of attention. I turn around, wrapping my arms around his neck and giving him a gentle kiss before I smile at him. "Happy birthday."

Marius smiles back at me. "Thank you."

"Poppa!" Harlow says happily. "Look!" She points to the stack of pancakes on the plate.

"Did you help Daddy make pancakes?" Marius asks. Harlow smiles happily and nods.

Marius wants to help me finish breakfast by setting the table, but I refused to let him help since it was his birthday. I mean, I try to refuse to let him. He ignores me anyway and grabs the plates and utensils needed for breakfast.

I finish cooking breakfast and since Marius has a different breakfast than the rest of us, I'm the one who fills up the plates and sets them on the table. When I set Marius's place in front of him, he looks at the food before saying, "Holy sh-- I mean... Wow, this looks amazing, Fawn. Thank you."

"You're welcome," I say. "And nice save." Harlow is still at the phase where she tends to repeat words she hears, so Marius has been doing a really good job at not cursing around her.

Just like on my birthday, the four of us are going to be spending the day together, not having to worry about work or any drama that could happen, especially with Marius's family. He still hasn't talk to his dad and has barely talked to his mom ever since his dad called social services on us. Marius's mom has partially been defending Marius's dad's actions instead of trying to convince him that there's nothing wrong with his son marrying a man.

And then there's Robbie, who currently seems to be doing whatever he could to spite their dad. Apparently, every time their dad says something negative about Marius being bisexual and marrying a man, Robbie says he'll go find a man to elope with.

I don't know if he actually will do it but at least Marius knows that his brother is on his side. If anything, Robbie is just saying whatever he could to spite their dad.

Marius wants to stay home all day just like we did on my birthday because it's a lot less stressful for all of us to stay home. We do like staying home anyway. He has a lot to do here so it's not like it gets boring.

We watch TV for a bit while the twins play around the living room before I decide to say, "So birthday present. Want it now or later?"

"I'll have it now, if that's okay," Marius says.

I smile at him and nod before telling him I'll go get it. I go to the spare room where I stored the present. I grab the gift bag and walk back to the living room, handing it to him. I've always been self-conscious about the gifts I give, but I've come to learn that with Marius, he just enjoys getting something in general, but he especially loves homemade gifts.

So I watch in anticipation as Marius takes out the gift, immediately looking in awe as he looks at the painting I made for him. Marius knows right away that I painted it myself, so he says, "Fawn, this is absolutely beautiful. I can't believe you painted this."

"Well, I know you like my paintings, so I thought I would make you one," I say.

Marius smiles at me and kisses me. "I love it. I really love it. It's... perfect." I'm glad Marius thinks about it that way. I knew I wanted to make a painting for his birthday, but it took a while to decide what to paint. Then, I decided that painting the beach was perfect. Not only is the beach one of our favourite places to go, but it was where we had both our first date and where we got engaged. I even added the little gazebos, lights, and blankets we had on our first date.

Marius gives me one more kiss before bringing the painting to our bedroom for safe keeping, and because he told me that's where he wants to hang it up. A perfect place since it's not just our bedroom, but it's our safe space. It's what signals our life together and how far we've made it.

marius is hard to get gifts for tbh because he's rich and will buy himself something if he wants it, so he basically has everything he needs. but he truly does love fawn's homemade gifts the most (i would too because fawn is so talented)
